UV-C Upholstery Vac
« on: March 20, 2011, 04:55:37 PM »
Getting a UV-C hand held vac. See if I can't kill some dust mites, flea eggs, and bed bugs as it's advertised.

Will it kill African albino tick setters?

I am having a real big problem with those.

Show me a link please.

Isnt the UV germ killing thing kind of a hoax?  I thought I had heard sometime back that the UV light in these vacuums were neither strong enough nor the duration long enough to actually kill stuff.

Maybe...

but the phrase just seems like an oxymoron.

I got a visual... and laughed.

I recall the twins in The Matrix. Edgar Winter Killing Macheens. with some awesome moves.

It seems to be a well built item. Does come with a warning to limit exposure to 1 hour of total time use a day.

I am sorry George, but that machine will not kill dust mites, and definitely will not kill bed bugs.  Ultra Violate light will not kill multi celled creatures like dust mites, and Bed Bugs.  It will kill bacteria, germs, mold spores, etc., but these are very small compared to a dust mite let alone a bed bug.  Also the light has to be on the thing you are trying to kill for 20 to 30 seconds.  Plus the light has to hit whatever you are trying to kill, so if a germ is on one side of say a thread then it will be in the shadow of the light and not effected.  There is no penetration with UV light.  The EPA directed one of the companies that sell mattress cleaning businesses to stop advertising that UV light killed dust mites.  They stopped for awhile but I understand are back at it again, but not quite as open about it as they were before.  We did quite a bit of testing ourselves with UV light for our mattress cleaning packages we sell, and settled on dry vapor steam.

I think they were referring to the dust mite and bed bug eggs but that's ok. Killing them doesn't mean they will never come back regardless of the system. It even says effective cleaning is an ongoing process.

In upholstery class I was taught that people like gadgets. I have a gadget that the other guy does not.

Marketing, selling points, and buzz.
