Trying out some chemicals, side-by-side to see results.

synthetic chair, off-white, with body oil on the arm rests.

There are three chemicals
1) Upholstery foam made by local Jan company.
2) Realsit DS
3) Realist Hydrox

The process is as fair as I know how...two chairs, four arm rests equally soiled. Of course they can both be wet-cleaned but my choice is not to for case of science

there are also four arm 'covers' used (n theory) to protect the arm portion of the chair(s). These are quite dirty as well.

I have cleaned three of the four arms and the side, tops and backs as well.

They are in the drying process right now but the results are very impressive.

I will report MY findings once all if dry.

Here's what I found;

The local foam worked as well as any of it did.

No big difference between DS/Hydrox or a simple foam cleaning method. None.

all of the arms browned out (my fault) there is cotton under the arm...who knew?

so a fast spritz of hydrogen peroxide and it popped right out.

It is vital to stress there chairs are not trashed but there was considerable dirt on the arms.

It would not have happened if I used a fan or some acid. But since the fabric is synthetci....?

anyway. Do what you will with the info.

Interesting that it bowned with hydrox, I thought it was suppose to prevent browning?

Had  speed dry, likely would not have browned out.

A few questions for you Phil. Did you use your new upholstery tool? Are you able to adjust PSI? How do you like it?

 How did you scrub in the ReleaseIt, with Stepson. Challenger stair tool, drill driver... etc?

This experiment was a low moisture trial. That is to say no extraction was used.

I like the tool alot. I used a sea sponge and/or a horse hair brush.

No. The foam does not crystal.

I was curious what method, if any, in my 'test' would prevail as champion.

If foam works as good as any other method for moderate soil...why not use it?

if its foam from a water based cleaner, thats why it browned out in addition to the fact it was left wet.

if its foam from upholstery shampoo, in "theory", the foam is supposed to dry to a powder, so it can be vacuumed away.
this is the principle in which the encap process was born!

if it was upholstery shampoo, and it was left wet, not only will it brown out, it'll stink like buffalo **** too!

Nothing like buffalo ass to make Moms 75 year old chair smell like moms 75 year old chair.  The browning gave it flair.
