I came out of upholstery cleaning retirement today
« on: March 11, 2011, 09:30:34 PM »
I've been slow lately... I mean REALLY SLOW.  So I bit the bullet and did an upholstery job today that presented itself.  I did a couch, love seat, and recliner.  Took about 2 hours which is much faster than I used to take.  I'm glad I did it.  Wasn't too bad though I'm a little sore now.  I can see getting back into this at least occasionally.

The reason I did the job was they were interested in the whole house special but wanted to get the uph done at the same time, so I would have lost the whole job if I didn't do it.  My little 3 gallon extractor got a workout today.

Of course I am.

I wont even leave the house for anything under $150.  :13:

So you going to stay with the upholstery or was this a fluke thing because you are just slow right now? I say stay with it. It's easy good money.

I used to hate upholstery cleaning myself until I bought a drimaster. Now I kinda look forward to it since the drimaster is a lot better than my old upholstery tool. I think my last upholstery cleaning job was in the end of December though so I'm looking forward to another one :great:

I think I might start offering it more regularly again, but I might not do microfiber or some of the delicate stuff.

Grant- Microfiber is the easiest fabric to clean and way faster than all the other fabrics. I do it a totally different way than using HWE. It's real simple.

I agree with the Microfiber. Probably the easiest fabric you will clean. Just make sure you groom it with with something like a horse hair brush when your finished to remove wand strokes (if you HWE).

Love cleaning micro-fiber, you can send them to me if you want to grant.

It's not just you as far as being slow, I think all of bellingham shuts down during February and March.

although I usually clean upholstery only when people are cleaning their carpets as well,  I will make trips to clean just upholstery if there is enough of it, or they are willing to pay the minimum charge. It's just not worth it to drive somewhere to clean one chair.

what is a good rate for cleaning upholstery? I have been charging by the linear foot, and people say I'm inexpensive, but what do you guys charge?

Funny, I just scheduled a sectional sofa with a whole house cleaning. This would be the first upholstery job in a year. I only do them if they beg me.  I may try to brush the cob webs from my Von Shrader, or try to hwe it. What do you use for pre spray when you HWE upholstery Grant?

I just use Avenge by Bridgepoint. It hasn't let me down yet....Like you I don't do much upholstery but when it comes, that's what I use.
