Bid Rejection
« on: March 17, 2010, 10:53:58 AM »
I had an appointment at 9:00 AM with an out of town restaurant to bid dinning room chairs.  I arrived a few minutes earlier. The waitress told the owner I was waiting. The owner walked around the premises ignoring me. Finally, a few minutes past 9 I went into the kitchen area and introduced myself to the owner.

We walked around the dinning room and counted 48 chairs. I gave him a bid for $3.00 @ (the chairs did not have an upholstered back) for cleaning. He immediately came back with a $2.50 counter. I told him $3.00 was the lowest price I go. He had a disgusted attitude and said that "this guy has a truckmount and all and he will do all the chairs for $75.00". I told him that was a good deal and left.

Apparently he was still looking if he was willing to pay me $2.50 per chair: $2.50 X 48 = $120.00.  I believe $120.00 is more than $75.00?  ???
I have all the tools including a truckmount but, I felt I was wasting my time and did not pursue any further. :'(

What do think?

Sounds like the guy was pulling your chain and had no respect for your time.

I would have countered with the same cost per piece but offered stains guard application and referred to it as a  $50.00 value offer.

You can't nor do you want to win them all.

$3.00 per chair is more than fair.

I would have done the same thing Juan. Sounds like he was bluffing. Now he probably has to get more quotes and waste more of his time.

Sorry to hear.  Those kind of folks aren't worth wasting time over IMO.  I think you did the right thing.

I know it's business, but I don't like to work for @ssholes.
Like Mike says we can't get 'em all.

Juan,

I'm sure you'll find a better job than that one.  Who needs that kind of BS for $150?

You might consider quoting higher in the future so you could have a little room to negotiate.

Better luck next time

Pick up the menu, say "ok let me get the bacon burger".  Tell him you'll pay him half since you can get a burger at McDonald's that will come with fries and a drink.

Good posts!  I would add that not only can we not "get them all" but that we "don't WANT them all".  If you would have got this, he woulda asked for fries with that hamburger when you were done, if you get my meaning.  Three bucks a chair wouldn't pay for my gas, and the pain in my ass.  That's my secret little saying....

I have had enough of resturants, the owners are cheap, the place gets trashed, they want like new results after its been trashed and neglected. If on an account most abuse the terms. Only way I'll do them again is COD, or credit card and fair pricing. I'd rather do trashed apartments.
