Marble Floor
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:36:18 AM »
I've got a marble floor i need to remove wax from. The marble is glossy white in a bathroom. I dont know why anybody would want to put a wax on it. The wax is flaking off and yellowing. I made out great stripping the slate AZ helped me on. What is recommended for stripping marble?

I would use a stripper but not as strong as you would when stripping VCT.
You'll have to test small area first to see what works.
Start with weak solution and work up to stronger until you find what works.
Use dwell time to compensate for a weaker dilution.
Use a white pad instead of a black pad.
After rinsing and drying buff out with a white or hogs hair pad.

You could also try our LamanatorPlus Deep Scrub. It's classified as a mild stripper with a 10.5 ph.  Spray on, let sit for about 3 to 4 minutes, then use 175 rpm with white pad....(it may work, but haven't tried it on marble before)

Also, you could ask Steve Toburen at Strategies For Success website....he would definately know...

Did the floor today. Started out with a weak solution of stripper. The wax was coming off in sheets and must have been 5 coats or so. I used the white buff pad but kept clogging up so i ended up stripping it 4 times to remove all of it. I tryed a black pad in a small area and it would scratch the marble so im glad i didn't use it thanks.  Got it all done though and it looked good after.

Once again sorry I wasn't here to help!  You did the right thing, luckily the other fellers gave you good advice about the black pad.  You could have gone to a red pad at most.  It probably wouldn't have scratched and wouldn't have clogged as bad.  BUT, you got it done.  It was coming off in sheets because it was a plasticized finish (epoxy, urethane).  You are very lucky you got it off at all.  In the future when you see yellowing or peeling, it is usually a plasticized finish, or it is a failing finish due to being on something else such as a, oh I don't know, stone sealer?  ha ha.  You're learning!  Next lesson is how to then sell honing and polishing on that marble now that it's stripped and cleaned.  Or maybe you did.....
