Good Hose for Steamin Demon Users?
« on: March 07, 2010, 12:43:39 PM »
I'm wondering what any of you SD users out there think of this hose.  Looks like one of these options might be MUCH easier to deal with.  Just put valves and quick connects on the ends.

First one:  http://www.safetycentral.com/50fthanwitea.html
Second one: http://www.safetycentral.com/50fthanwitea.html

Though it looks like you have to unwind the entire length of hose you have before turning the water on, it looks like setup/breakdown time might be drastically easier, not to mention these hoses would take up very little space in the van.

Oops, looks like I posted the same one twice.

Here is the second one:
http://www.a1hose.com/ecf-300-hose.html
This is the one I ordered.  This one will last forever whether I end up using it for this regularly or not.  Read some bad reviews of the other one saying it sprang holes withing a few uses for some folks so I'm getting this one.

I'm getting two 50' sections. Will use it for water and dump on the jobs where I only need 50'.  On the bigger jobs will use that for the dump hose and my existing 100' of supply hose.  If I "love" it then eventually I'll get some more and use only that hose.

I guess I should quite whining about my issues with the SD.  From what I hear from other owners I always get the impression I'm the only one who is annoyed by dealing with these hoses... oh well, I'm just a baby I guess.  :'(

Grant,
Your just used to the easy goodness of OP cleaning  :)

I was in the same boat, I had a real hard time ever using my porty because I had the OP thing down to a science, and compared to OP the porty was a pain in the be hind to use. I hope once you get some more hours with the machine you'll start to like it more.

Could be Andy.  Maybe if the first machine I ever got was the SD I would have adapted to it and my thinking would be very different.  I was driving down the street yesterday and drove by a house with a TM out front with somebody trying to clean a carpet.  There was water all over the driveway from the TM and hoses everywhere.  Maybe a big awful mess is just something I gotta get used to for that way of doing it?

Mo, I don't think the a1 hose will ever have that problem.  It's actual fire hose and is rated to something like 800 psi even though I'll never use it above about 90.

Wow it is a firehouse.

Now why would a firehouse service temperature range max out 140°F. Does that mean it could fail at temperatures above 140? I figured those hoses would a little more heat resistant.

Grant, I feel the same about the hose issues and I plan on changing mine out this weekend. I have my eye on some hoses I'm hopeing will work.

The problem I see with the hose you ordered is that it might easily kink, but let me know if they work out.

I'll let you know Jeff.  Kinking is a potential problem with that one but we'll see.

After you get your new hose and try it out let me know what it is and whether you like it.

Thanks for chiming in.

I am interested in how these hoses work for you too. I bought 2 Pacific  Tsunamis ,which are basically rebranded Steamin Demons  just not painted white and red ,they are stainless and black, but I think they are made by Steamin Demon for Pacific. When I bought them they did not come with any hoses and the stock hoses are pretty steep! I am planning on using them on commercial accounts, primarily restaurants ,prespray, rotary scrub, then extract with the Tsunamis.I know Steamin Demon has a high pressure version you can use with a truckmount or hot pressure washer
which is what I was thinking about, trying to modify them for that for high heat, anyone have the Steamin Demon with the high pressure option,or even think it would be worth the effort to have the high heat?

As a  Steamin Demon distributor we were notified that SD does not make the high pressure model anymore.  They are reworking it and when the new model comes out it will apparently have its own high pressure pump.  We also use the SD, not much though as we do mostly OP and CRB cleaning, but I agree with Grant the hose covering that contains both the discharge, solutions and electric cord is kinda of a pain to pull around.  The plastic covering doesn't slide across the carpet very easily.  Interested to know how the other hoses work out.

I bought a 100' of hose for the fresh water just got to get the quick connects on and test it out.
I'm going to change the discharge hose as soon as I find a hose I'm happy with.

The hose I bought is 1/4" air hose, it will reduce my water flow but I hope not enough to matter.
The air hose is rated at 300psi, just not sure how much heat it can take so I'll just have to try it out.

The new hose definitely reduces the water flow, so if you want to keep the flow at 3-4 gpm than this hose will not work but if you don't need that much water flow you might want to give this hose a try.

The problems I had were since the hose was packaged in a small 100 ft. coil it wanted to kink up some, I think once it's used enough the small coils will get worked out. I think it also need to be cut in to 50 ft sections so it can be managed better.

The hose is 1/4" air hose rated at 300psi  it's a translucent blue I bought it at Home Depot for about $37 I can't remember the name of the company that makes the hose,( my wife threw away the packaging)
I've only used it once and the water pressure and heat wasn't that great so it need more testing to see if it will hold up to higher heat and pressure, hopefully it will be ok.

Thanks Jeff, let me know what you think after trying it a few more times.

My new A1 hose just came in the mail yesterday so I'll give that a try soon.  I'm just going to try it for the pump out hose at least at first.  A couple months ago I had a 100' section of hose made for me out of the 3/8" hose kind of like what you see for sinks and toilets.  That hose isn't too difficult to deal with so if this works well for the pump out I think I'll finally be set.  Yesterday I experimented with using the 100' hose for the water and just 50' for the pump out hose.  When half way done I just moved the pump out from the kitchen sink to hallway toilet so it could reach.  That was a lot easier to deal with than the extra 50' of hose.

Ok so the A1 hose is a no-go for the demon.  As you suspected Jeff the flexibility leads to kinking!
