rugs
« on: December 12, 2009, 11:31:48 AM »
I have done two rugs in home to dig out cat hair for a customer with a crb, cleaned the fringes by hand.thought this seems o.k. but I see there is way to much to do this on a regular basis. That was the only call I got for rugs.
Are these rugs making you guys any money or is this a tight market to get into.

Not sure if you've read my previous posts, I differ with some on here when it comes to rugs, some will tell you to do in your garage, customer house, w/ a tarp, etc.  With VLM it won't hurt the rug much nor will it really clean deep down, even though you will see a difference, I'd still look for someone that has taken the time, money, and training and sub the work to them.  Not just some dude that does it in his concrete warehouse floor, I'm talking about someone w/ a rug pit.  Call around and see who in you're town does it and work something out w/ them.   I make 40-60% from pick up/deliver w/ rugs, and I know they're getting done by someone who does rugs for a living, I won't have to worry about damaging/bleeding/sheeding the rug.

That's my take on it.

On pro cleaners there was this dvd being sold as becoming a rug specialist, make tons of money doing this service.I really get no calls from people wanting rugs cleaned,I would have wasted money and effort thinking I will make it big doing rugs.
It did sound good cleaning rugs in my garage $$$$$$$!
You are right I will look for some one who knows what they are doing, sub to them.
Or just say no once a year!
That is all the calls I get for rugs

I can make people buy shit from a box if I had the cash for marketing.  Maybe you gotta look at your marketing strategies and see what you need to change.

By the way I have that rug dvd and was on the 2-3 days class w/ mark kennedy.

You can make money cleaning area rugs. There are plenty around to clean.

If you don't have a lot of call for that kind of work in your area then maybe working a subcontract deal with a rug plant makes sense.

In the past I've cleaned them on site and brought them back to my shop to clean. The best situation was when we had a location in a busy area of town. People would just drop them off and pick them up. I cleaned them in between other things so it was a great add on for me while I was at the office.

Don't do any of it at this point. I focus just on commercial carpet cleaning.

You should get some education about cleaning area rugs to avoid buying one. There are many places to get the education you need. Also a rug forum in our LINKS section you could check out.

It was very good, pretty intense too.  But I still decided to sub the work out, that was more based after I went thru the course, since there's so much about rugs and i felt in the long run i'd be better off handing it off to someone that does it for a living.  The dvd's are good, it will help you sell and talk about the service with clients.

I love rugs ;D ;D ;D

They are a great money maker.  I added $40 to a stop last week for an extra 10 minutes of work.  I clean most of them myself and sub out tough, nasty (urine), delicate & expensive rugs to a local cleaner who cleans them for me.  I'll use my defender for synthetic rugs and my VS LMX for wool and orientals.  I'll clean synthetic rugs in home but prefer to clean wool in garage, smells like wet sheep when wet.

I also purchased the DVD's but didn't have time to do the webinar.  I'd like to have a rug shop in the future, would be good source of income.
