pet urine ,area rug quotes
« on: August 30, 2010, 03:57:12 PM »
Had custy call today, she has pet urine odors in area rugs.  What would one charge for odor removel,,I would probably have to put the osr to it.   Should I charge for regular cleaning AND odor removal?       She wants them done on location which I'm not to keen on.    (to many things to go wrong)

Price depends on level of contamination, time involved, amount of product used. Until you inspect it I would not give a price. Also check for type of fiber, color crocking. Some rugs are better left to those who are equipped if its haitian cotton or similar the dyes can be very unstable. As for determining on site or off site that is your call not the customers if you are better equipped off site simply inform the customer of that. Make extensive inspection paperwork prior to removing or cleaning, don't let her headache become yours.

I would not tackle that onsite.

Most inplant companies would submerge something like that to treat. You can treat area rugs without doing that but it may take a while. Not something you can do in a few minutes.

How much urine? Do you have a blacklight to use? That might give you some idea of what you're getting into.

You would want to charge for both cleaning and treating.

He only has one company in the area he could really sub it out to. They don't have a true rug plant unless they've done some upgrades.

Otherwise the closest "rug plant" is in Westbrook or Bangor. About 2 hours each way from his area.  :P

Area Rugs are a PITA. I only do them if they are the cheap Olefin or nylon. If it is any natural fiber I tell them Have to take it to the Rug plant where it can be properly cleaned.  I do not want to be responsible for any of those reindeer games that natural rugs pose.

looking rugs over on Thur.  ,   I'll go from there.     I've been doing a few area carpets this summer  .        I've been doing most every one that comes except for the bleeders.
Talked to same custy today.   She said I cleaned her friends area carpet (which was a bound piece of nylon) at her friends house ,  which was on old wood plank floors with stapled down linoleum.   And asks why I won't do hers at her home right after she tells me the rugs sit on immaculate wood flooring! :P     Told her there was no way I'm going to clean her area rugs on those floors,(possible finish or swelled wood problems).        So now shes letting me p/u , Del.

How much would you charge for osr treatment on urine spots on an area rug.     I have done a couple and got good results but I've got an idea I'm undercharging for this type of service.   ::)

It depends on your costs, you have to figure your own costs to see what you need to charge to make a profit.
