enzymes/area rugs
« on: October 12, 2010, 05:02:59 PM »
I am such a noob at area rugs so currently stick with the easy-to-do ones.

But the profit margin is stupid high so I am thinking....

Am I dreaming or is it possible to rug badger one, surface clean it, treat any urine with an emzyme and deliver decent results?

I mean do we really need to bath rugs?

Honest question.

I had a small shop for a while and we used to clean area rugs there.............without bath.

The one Rug plant we have in the Southern part of the state just beats them, shampoo with rotary then hang to dry.

We had an area with cement floor and drains. Used to hose them out real well there then treat.

More options today to treat urine. Not as many options back then for treatment.

Like, in front of them or after I take it to 'the plant'?

If there is a strong urine smell then a fresh steamer would be advised to mask the urine.

I use peeradicator & OSR for treating urine.  Remember that not all urine stains can be removed and it's important to let your custy know that up front.  I clean most of my rugs with my Von Schrader LMX and cold/hot water rinse with my Kwik Steam extractor and get great results.  When I get heavily soiled rugs I bring them to a local cleaner.

Is there a fee?

The  only problem I've had with area rugs is the ones that bleed color dyes.     I use OSR for urine stuff.     I use low PH

cleaners for the bleeders with low heat or no heat.     Also ,  FAST dry the bleeding ones!

Nice money for working in my own house,  I do not like to do area rugs in custys house.

I use HWE,    and clean them on a tarp ,  I like the tarp because i can overhang the wand about 3'' over the edge of rug.
The tarp sucks up to the wand on the over hang,  while the rest of the wand stays cleaning. I get nice results on the edges
and never have to hook up a smaller tool.

     1- inspect rug(s)
2-hang and beat loose dirt out
     3-vac. both sides
4-clean with necessary chems and systems
     5-speed dry

hope this helps, I've only had to bath 2 rugs so far because the urine contamination was unreal!

A tip for bleeders is to apply a product like Bridgepoint Dyelock.

That's assuming you want to do it at all?

Just a thought..............

I am going to do them. I will either take that 1k $ class or get the book.

I really want to sell of the CC'ing biz and focus on other things...rugs being one.
