What is the best cleaner for wool?

I realize this is a very objective question, but I was  thinking in terms of PH rating, residue traits and discoloration factors?

depends on how bad it is. I like Lamonator Plus for heavy duty cleaning but should be followed with Lamonator Plus Restore. I have always been partial to Murphys Oil for general cleaning using sparingly after a microfiber mopping, then a thick dry pad for buffing with OP.

I would not use Lamanator Plus on a Wool rug...but hey that's just me....

If you want to talk about rugs w/out worrying about harming them I'd go on ICS or the Rug Hub as most of the guys on there are Rug guys.

i think jeff has mistaken wool for wood  

cleaning wool area rugs and wool wall to wall (<---very rare) are 2 different animals in my book.

i have safely cleaned wool area rugs with cleancrafts "o'so clean"!
neutral PH, non wet dog odor, zero residue!

I have been using the Releasit Hydrox on wool rugs due to the Ph of about 7 and have been impressed thus far with how they have turned out. I've only done about 5 with this product thus far so take that with a grain of salt.

Does anybody know the Ph of the new Envirox Hp product? That might be a good choice too.

The PH of environ and environ HP is neutral when mixed. Should be good for wool.

Orvus shampoo and rinse in diluted vinegar yes it works.Orvus is actually what we used at the rug plant I worked at.Vinegar will actually help set the dies and keep it from bleeding.Take a hard spotter to the back of the rug or a area on in home carpeting not visible and do a color-fast test to see if the color runs.Then test it all the way down to the shampoo.Spotters for wool can vary we used red-one,usr,and many others.I know they say they are not safe,but testing and keeping a bottle of Target to neutralize the PH will bring back the color back and make everything good again.The only way to clean rugs is to play with fire sometimes you just don't wanna get burned. Sorry I didn't see this post earlier

Can you elaborate on the steps using Orvus and the vinegar rinse? How it is done from the beginning - on each step and much quantity of each liquid is used. Thank you for your input.

Orvus shampoo its a very large tub of concentrate it will last you forever.I mean one to two scoops in a 2 gallon bucket your ready to go.We actually used a scrubber and I still use a floor scrubber with soft brushes for an oriental and hard ones for synthetics.You clean the fringe by hand with a horse hair brush and Orvus.If it doesn't clean up use RX Fringe,or yes the Chemspec Hattion upholstery cotton cleaner on fringe.Now using hot water on karastans is fine,but without testing first don't do it.We all know urine can play games.I would keep in mind each experience you have with a rug and write it down.Always test but most of the time if you use hot water on one countries rug you can do it again.There always is a much higher risk with reds,pink,etc.The whites and blacks you can get aggressive with most of the time.I would mix for 5 gallons of water 4-8 oz.vinegar max maybe less and some deo to knock out the smell I don't like the smell I just use vinegar for dye stabilizing and as our acid rinse.

Also don't clean just any rug like this.Silk,rayon,chainstitch are just a few to name that you will ruin if you do this process.I can look at pics and tell you what most rugs are,and how to be safe cleaning them. I worked a cash & carry counter checking in rugs for two years.
