Your Fired!!!
« on: July 01, 2011, 12:19:22 AM »
Ok, I had yet another oddball rescheduler.. Big Ol 3 story home with barely 300 s.f. of carpets and yes another buttload of stairs each one is nasty and mostly covered with embedding black lab hair.. super fuzzy wuzzy dog..
Ok, I got a call to do an estimate a few months back also in Medford/Jacksonville. Cost me $30 in gas for a bid of $165, we set up a time, and she reschedules God I cant remember how many times. Sometimes as much as three times a week.

So, she called a few weeks back to setup for today. I explained to her that 1. I live an hour away and I do not schedule jobs that far away until 10:30-11 am....
 2. I will also try to schedule jobs in the same area for the same day to be cost effective with fuel costs. So the day is profitable.
Plain and simple logic..

Now, I had lost jobs because she had sheduled times so I add clients in the area for the day. I lost jobs because I sheduled her in for the day that reliable clients would have appreciated... Then she cancels and the person I could not schedule is long gone and hired someone else..GRR!!!!
Well she was scheduled today at 11 am.. so I added someone "An Excellant Company" of mine at 9  am.
I ended up running later than usual so I call the next custy "her" at 10 am to let her know I may be later than projected..
She demanded that She wants to be the first customer of the day so it can dry..LMAO She prefered the bonnet method BTW..dry in 20 or less..

So I did NOT bite my tongue, I said "maam, frankly I have lost well over $500 dollars trying to accomidate you, and have lost clients who would have used the many time slots you have filled up then wasted. You also costed me well over $125 dollars in fuel for the days I started drive the hour to your home, only to have you cancel on me. To be fair I did call you each time before I left and yet you insisted on cancelling either before I left my city or after I have left town only to drive the 8 miles to turn back around in the city of rogue river just to come back home.
I run a business and I am not your personal butler.. I do hope you find someone who can accomidate your wishes BUT IT WILL NOT BE US at this time..Im am going to have to fire you as a customer. :-\
Thank you and have a good day.."
END BUTTON
since there is no click

some custys are just like that.  I had one yesterday reschedule 3 times, IN THE SAME DAY! she just pushed it back 1 hour at a time. I was lucky I didn't have much going on yesterday and it actually helped me get more add on work done for my first job.

Generally the call comes in the day before. However with problematic customers I do call the day before AND before I leave.  :13:

I don't have a lot of problem with cancels except for window washing weather related. However, I got burned (6 working days) several years ago when someone rescheduled twice for 3 working days then cancelled when I arrived, twice. I solved the problem by asking for a non-refundable deposit up front for anything over $1,000. Anything other than serious emergency on their end or my end or weather and I arrive for the work. Other than that, they can request a date change and I will do everything I can to provide service as requested. It's another thing if they call a week or two in advance. This tells me that want to work with me, they are considering the impact of them re-scheduleing, and they understand the nature of how I make a profit.

I have not had a problem since. On a couple occasions I have had small dollar customers that cancel last minute request a date change. When that happens the first time I say, "I would be glad to hold another date for you. Would you like to pre-pay by check or credit card." That sends the message I need. If they challenge this, I just let them know this is my company policy when a customer shows a history of last minute changes.

Guess who calls this morning. Yup. Wanted July 21st. :-[
Not realizing who it was, I schedule, then hang up. Then it smacks me in the face.
She actually I was concerned about time of day, not the costs to accommodate her wants and preferences. She Hung up on me
