hurricane irene
« on: August 26, 2011, 10:28:30 AM »

looks like this storm is gonna take no prisoners! most of my area is under mandatory evacuation and i believe the area jmellon is in is also!
gotta get all my deck furniture secure and hope and pray the house remains afterwards! some big ass trees near my home   :-[

worst part of living near the ocean is when this happens! and to add insult to injury, just as the storm is on top of jersey, it'll be high tide   :banghead:
we've had an incredable amount of rain the last couple weeks so that too will compound the flooding that will happen with the grounds being so logged up!

Best of luck to you and all who may be affected by the storm.

Not sure we will see much more than the affects of a typical Nor'easter here in Maine but I'm going to secure all the small stuff outside.

Kids first day of school was supposed to be Monday but is has already been cancelled.

most of jersey looks like a war zone, especially all up and down the coast and along bays and rivers! some spots have 5, 6 and 8 feet of standing water, trees down everywhere, lotsa homes damaged from wind, trees and tornados!

i feel very fortunate to have no home damage, no flooding, and to still have power! most important my family and i are all alive and well!
this irene was one kick ass storm!

And I remember all the stories from this past winter. Man, you've been getting it on both ends. Hold on tight and stay in touch.

thanks for the well wishes guys! its hard to believe the storm damage to homes, roads, businesses, etc..........trees that fell thru homes, crushed cars, runaway boats going down local roads, dead marine life in town centers!

eric sed it right. we been getting slammed it seems. long range forecasts call for another killer winter here!

anyone hear from joe mellon? he's here in jersey too!  mike m up in maine? and other east coast members? there are massive power outtages and communication disruptions all around the northeast from the carolina's up to and thru maine!

Micky - Glad all is well with you.

We lost power yesterday and still don't have it back. I'm running on generator for a bit to refill water and see if the internet was working.

No major damage here. Some minor damage to the garden. Lots of trees, flooding and roads washed in various areas of the state. Power company is warning it could be several days before we get power.

Set up in the camper last night and just camping out in the yard.  ;D

Camper comes in handy sometimes, huh? I had my water heater go out a few years ago on a monday and I knew I was not going to have time to go buy a new one and install it until the weekend so I just set up the camper and we showered in there all week.

Glad everyone is OK. Sometimes I'm glad I live where I do, nothing to worry about here but the occasional blizzard.

There's always Arizona? At least here, the storms we get have the word "boob" (Haboob) in them. Makes one want to move here doesn't it?

Still no power here. Not sure when we'll get it.

Not suffering at all. We have generators and campers. Weather is supposed to be good all week so the crews should make some good headway.

I feel bad for all the line crews working so hard to get people power. They've been working hard for a few days now and people are getting testy about not having power.

Storm disasters like these take a while to recover from. I drove through the tornado damage from April yesterday and could still see the 1/2 mile wide path.

Yes, it will take a while to recover from this.

Major pieces of infrastructure were damaged. Takes a while to rebuild those types of things.

We lost some bridges here in this state. They are talking about getting those reopened sometime next year. Meanwhile a motel owner just beyond one of the bridges says all the guests they had booked for this holiday weekend have cancelled. That hurts.
