halfway done with my paint job. 9 hours of sanding, 3 hours prepping, 3 cans of spray paint so far, I figure another 4 or 5 will do the trick.

That's alot of time you have put in to be using a rattle can. Did you use a self etching primer on thse bare areas?

I'm using an appliance epoxy that dosn't require a primer. it's going on nice and smooth and should be tough as nails when I'm done.

I know it's not going to be perfect hence the thread title, but it'll have to look better then before, and it's turning out better then expected.  I got a quote from maco for over $1,300, and other quotes were even higher, this should be less then $100 when I am done.

Since it is a "ghetto" paint job... ;D Are you using any filler to smooth things out?

What ever happened to Earl Scheib. I'll paint your cae or truck for 199.99 every time.  They were also known for painting glass and chrome.

Now thats smart bizznass!! $20 says your customers give you complements on your new van and another $20 says you start getting lots of calls just from people seeing it!
Cant wait to see it all done, are you sticking with the design i did? Or are you droping the CCC? and just doing CCB with green leaf dude?

At first glance I thought you bought an Ice cream truck! Then i realized in the other pics that was just news paper you used for masking.

Im guessing your staying away from the windows. It would look better if you covered em up.. but as we know that means more cash out of pocket..
I think it looks good though man! Matching colors with text is looking primo! And sure people will remember it!

it's a cargo van so i only have the one side window, I just am going for a very clean look.

I would put my # on the back, but then I get too many angry calls from people  I cut off in traffic...  :043: j/k

I have too many vans, before i letter this one all up and start using it, I'll see if i can make a quick buck by flipping it.

wow joel, i totally forgot earl scheib was still around, let alone they are/were out there in the great west!
when i was a kid, my day had an earl slob paint job done on a 1958 lincoln premier, the one that looks like the batmobile. for the super sale price of $19.99  <-----no lie! then it cost about $100.00 for a new windshield cause my dad couldnt remove the paint from it   :017:

looks like you did a pretty nice job from here.  Where do you get the time to do all this stuff this time of year?  I go crazy every August trying to keep up... but I also don't work nights.

thanks grant.

I don't recommend using spray paint to do touch ups, it wouldn't match well.  Maco will do it pretty cheap if you are just doing the hood.

get some sleep, you have another long day tomorrow I'm sure. worry about making the van look better when you have some more free time  :great:
