New cotton pad developement
« on: December 15, 2011, 05:48:37 PM »
I spoke with the owner of Tuway today, well her son about making a single layer cotton or high percentage cotton blend pad. The goal is simply to make the best pad. I want it to be 17 and 19" for rotaries and 22" for PO. Please give your input so I can not only share it with the manufacturer but prove that we have real interest and that this seed should grow. Thanks.

Tell them that their is going to be big hole in the mkt due to the  fact John G will no longer be selling Glads.

I will be more interested in the 19". 22" pads (cotton) do not run well under my Orbot. They fold under. 19" will be just fine.

Tell them to buy a standard cotton pad and do EVERYTHING they can to make thiers the opposite. Tell them to get ahold of a Glad pad, one of thier micro fiber pads and come up with something that will scrub like a Glad but will not catch and tangle up hair balls on the pad. That is one reason why I like the blue microfiber pads.

Actually BigChuckie we are working on 4 different pads, 3 of them are mainly for the Trinity, the other is for all OP, a gladpad type pad, manufactured in the USofA. But this will between samples and testing take at least a couple of months.

Like Chembright said use the Glad as a guide but need to last longer than 20 washes. The Original Glads were awsome, nice and thick and reduced any chance of fiber blooming.

There are no 100%  thin cotton pads being sold by any one (that I know of)   so the market  is wide open.  The 100% cottons need to be fairly cheap as they die after about 20 use's.   So we have  a need for a cheap cotton pad and a need for a glad type pad.

Glad to hear the pad man is working on new pads, .

I just ran some microfiber pads with scrubbing strips. I noticed the scrubbing strips I thought were a plastic bristle but it seemed they were more like a stiff fiber of some sort. I really liked this pad. I would like to see some sort of a soft pad made with cotton/microfiber, agressive but yet nothing that would tip bloom carpet.
I wonder why and maybe someone can answer this for me. I wonder why microfiber pads will not ball up hair in carpet and wrap it up in the pad? Cotton and Glad pads all pull the hair out of carpet and also into the pad and make it look like a mess and unattractive to bring into a home. You end up having to spend a bunch of time pulling aand cutting the hair out of the pad which also breaks it down. I would like to see something more flexible than these microfiber pads that can be thrown down and pull hair out of carpet and not into itself.

Correct me if I'm wrong but mico fiber is made by splitting the fibers into smaller fibers so you have more fingers to reach in and grab. I like the idea and will bring it up to them but I would think that you would not be able to do this to cotton as it would degrade to fast if it was even possible. Its a great thought. Do you pre vac? And are you talking people or pet hair?

Yes, I prevac and I post vac. The hair is both pet and human. Not to get into the whole OP vs rotary debate because I like rotary's as well but since switching over to OP from a rotary one thing I noticed is how much more hair and staple fibers are pulled out. Staple fibers can even get gummed up in a gladpad as well.

What I am wondering is if there is a way to make maybe a microfiber/cotton blended pad? I havn't got a clue as to how microfiber is made. I just know what I don't like about certain pads.

When did we ever get off topic?  All replies have expressed what we're lacking, (or needing) for pads.

Andy I  guess I was hoping for materials, blends, design thoughts that could be shared the Tuway to make something completely or almost completely new. My first post, you will have to give me time to get used to how things work.

I still like the idea and will mention it. Thanks.

I don't think anything new is needed.  We need a sorce for 100% cotton pads, and a glad style pad.   There is a void in the market at this point,. Just my Opinion.

Good luck on people "giving you" the material list, we made our glads out of a triblend and the materials are proprietary, that is the funny thing about inventing products, YOU have to do the work.  LOL

This is my new favorite pad. I have been running the snot out of it and it SCRUBS unlike any other microfiber I have used. As of now. I am happy with my pads!

If I keep getting the same results with this pad I will not need anything else. I will just be curious to see how long they hold up. My recent Glads lasted about 20 cleanings. Was not happy about that.

Told you you'd like them Jon.   :santa_afro:

I personally like to follow behind with a glad or something else to pick up more soil, but they do scrub really well and I am hearing more and more stories of people using them as their main pad.  Guess I'm stuck on the "old dog, new tricks" thing.  :santa_shocked:

Didn't know you made pads John. I heard you imported your pads. Do you cut and bind them in your location? My goal here is to offer suggestions to a manufacturer that might help everyone.  Anyway, just looking for what people like and maybe a way to improve on the current small list of options for orbital and rotary.
