Upholstery / Stair Cleaning / Spotting Equipment
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:02:07 PM »
I'm looking for one machine that I could bring in and set up on each job that could clean upholstery, stairs, spots, urine, vomit and maybe even steam clean a room.  I'd also like it to be compact so it would fit in my Element and be easy to set up and breakdown.

I cleaned a rug today that had a lot of dog poop stains and was able to clean it with my OP.  It looked great and there were only a few spots that weren't removed completely.  I'm sure a HWE rinse would have made a difference.  I've cleaned other rugs that the custy was happy with but I thought a little HWE would have made it just a bit better.

I'd also like to clean more upholstery on carpet jobs but it is such a PIA to set up and use my Von Schrader Epirit that I don't usually try to upsell.  If I had a machine that was easy to use, cleaned well and already inside, I know I'd sell more upholstery.

Last but not least, I'm tired of cleaning stairs on my knees with the step son.  Also the damn thing is falling apart on me.  Pads are shot and almost down to bare metal.

I'd like to know if anyone is using a machine like this and what it is.  I've looked at small spotters and own a Durrmaid, with heat, but it's not what I'm looking for.  I've been looking at the Kleenrite Sphere, U.S. Products XLT-60, a small Mytee extractor and Cross American.

The closest I've found to meeting my needs is the Daimer XPH5900IU
www.daimer.com/carpet-cleaners/xtreme-power-xph-5900iu.htm

Does anyone have experience with this company, machine or a suggestion for a machine to consider?

Thanks,

Big O

Just get a porty with at least 2-2 stage or 2-3 stage vacs, the recoil is a good fit for your Element.

For upholstery get a decent uph wand, the ones with the internal jets are really nice and won't soak up the fabric.

If you don't want to clean stairs on your knees you can find a 3-4 feet stair tool to hook up to the porty.  I use the Makita, which I also have to use 2 hands to operate and know what you're going thru.  That will be my next investment, when the Makita dies.

Andy knows a good source for a carpet wand, I'd get a crevice tool for filtration lines, since the OP won't go right up the wall.  I build the cost into the price for filtration lines since it takes more time, something you can look at.

I have some of the same issues.  I think s porty somewhat larger than your durrmaid might suit your purpose well.  I do like my challenger stair tool (similar to stepson with different pad driver I think) for berber, commercial, and PET carpet just great.  Crouching down doesn't bother me, I quit using my oreck orbiter for stairs b/c I preferred crouching.  I love my sebo for pre-scrubbing stairs, easy to scrub the risers too.

Bill,

I really like the Recoil but it's a bit too much for now.

I might just go with the Kwik-Steam.  Odd that it doesn't have a heating element yet it's called a Kwik-Steam.  Looks like that would fit the bill plus give a little extra with the auto fill and auto dump add ons.

I think the Recoil with the heater and tanks, an Orbot and the Mytee with spinner would be a heck of a 1 man cleaning cleaning package.

Bill & Grant,

Thanks for your advice.  I ordered a portable from Ed Valentine at Cross American
http://cross-american.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=6

This machine will do everything I need plus with the extra 50 feet of hose I will have the option to do a job with HWE when it's easier and faster than OP and for the occasional custy who demands it.

I also scheduled a job to clean 2 sofas, 2 love seats and 1 BR :D, can't wait for the new machine ;D ;D ;D

That machine right there looks like a great idea for cleaning stairs, uph, and to have on board for the urine jobs.  Good idea and good price!

Won't be long till I go full blown Recoil with heat & tanks ;)  Maybe in a few years!

Hi, just wanted to update thread.

I purchased a Kwik Steam from Ed Valentine at Cross American.

I've cleaned my living room carpet, stairs, sofa, chair & ottoman and am very happy with the results.  This is an easy machine to operate, lightweight, great extraction, good wand great upholstery tool and can even use to HWE when it's easier than OP or to compliment OP on heavily soiled and urine removal.

I'm very happy with this decision and looking forward to providing better cleaning and making more money upselling upholstery, mattresses and auto interiors

My thanks to Ed Valentine for taking the time to answer all of my questions and for building such a good machine.
