RX20 GearBox Rebuild
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:17:48 PM »
Well I can either pay interlink $700 for a gear box.  :41: Or rebuild it. I am going to go in monday to a unique business and possibly order new gears for the RX20. I had already picked up all the bearings and seals for it. Just need to take the gears in to be measured up...Cut, hardened, heat treated, nitrided.

Now since my highspeed RX to me is way slower than chemdry's powerhead. I am going to try to see if I can rearrange gear ratio to speed things up a bit. After all it is running a 1 1/2 horse motor.

OR!!!! I might goto a belt drive system. Replace gears for belt drive pullys.  :72:

With belt drive I dont need a calculus degree to figure out how to speed the system up. A smaller load pully will increase speed as will a larger pinion pully.  :celebrate:

Put a rabbit on a wheel in there with a carrot on a string in front of it's face and call it a day.

Tried that but I ended up eating the wascally wabbit..it did however taste greasy  like 90 weight oil!!

The cost alone for the gears is breathtaking.  :celebrate: The cost for all of the bearings AND seals is cheaper than the asking price from interlink for just one seal!!! And the bearings I got are studly industrial grade. :great:

I need to have a machine shop use a 12 ton press to remove the old primary gear and install the new primary. The pinion gear is simple. Just has a rolled pin holding it in place on the shaft.

So....after I figure out the total cost I will offer this as a service to forum members only... U.S. Cleaners members only!!

I am figuring the total cost would be around $300-$350.  :13: Versus $700-$800.  :banghead:
