porty pump motor hum,
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:57:36 PM »
My porty pump motor makes a loud hum before it kicks in.   Never use to do this, I'm thinking new motor?  (heck , might as well put one of them on  the parts shelf too!)       I've only have the one machine, if it breaks down and I don't have the part it might take a few days to get one.    I guess I'm probably better off having the spare pump motor on hand.
I'll be some glad to have another machine sometime so that I won't have to worry so much about breakdowns

Any one had their pump humming on a start up?

I just ordered a new pump from Steam Brite, my pump mostly pulsates when the trigger is pressed.

When you replace the old one with new, take the old one in to have it rebuilt. wont cost much and that can be your back up. its just a few bushings and brushes in those things that wearout.

The hum may be due to a bearing problem on the motor shaft,if its a brush motor the brushs may be worn and creating a flat spot on the shaft, or relay switch if the motor is a split phase motor one phase may not be performing in the relay or limit switch correctly.
