Help Cobra portable no pressure
« on: January 08, 2010, 03:22:50 PM »
I bought a King Cobra portable (500) psi. For some reason it will not build any pressure. The guage will not move off zero, and only a small stream of water will come out of the hose. It has a pumptec 205 and I replaced the head. The motor seems to run fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks the help
Micah

My Truckforce portable used to do the same thing, so maybe this will help.

Without it running, take a flat-blade screwdriver, and push in the tip on your quick connector that goes to your solution hose. Sometimes, these freeze up, and will not allow any flow, so the machine cannot build up pressure. It might be a safety feature to keep the pump from burning up, I don't know.

I used to see some water come out, or hear the pressure release. Connect your hose, and then turn on your machine and see if you have pressure and flow. To keep this from happening, when you shut the machine off and prior to disconnecting the solution hose, trigger the wand or whatever tool you are using, to release the pressure.

Could it be frozen? I checked your profile and no location is listed so not sure if your in cold weather climate. Could also simply lost its prime, should be instructions on how to reprime if not disconnect hose and draw water into pump I have used the boat primer fule hose with bulb in line worked well some retrofitting to fit your pump line may be necessary, usally a simple barb style fitting to connect hose to hose will suffice.

Also make sure the intake side of the pump is clear (hose and all). Some machines have filters somewhere that can clog.

Another thing you can try.........Connect a section of hose to the machine. Plug a disconnect into the other end so solution can flow. Turn the vac motor on and put the hose end into the vac connector of the machine. Cover the vac connector with your hand so you can get suction on the hose. Turn the pump on. If its going to prime it will. If that doesn't work then go back and look at the pump head.

Some of the new machines on the market have a prime valve that does what I described above without having to use a hose. Its all plumbed internally.

Wonder if this guy got his pump working.

I have a water otter couldn't get anything out of it, replaced
the seals, o-ring etc...ended up sending it to California to be fixed.

They replaced the unloader, got it back, still didnt work.
After spending another day on it I finally went down to Jon-Don and picked up
a new quick disconnect. Heck, I replaced everything else by that time.
And that ended up being the problem.

That was one expensive, time consumming lesson.

BTW I checked it for blockage, made sure the center pushed in and out, didnt look
defective at all but that was the problem. The guy in Cali told me he had no problem
except it wouldnt get to rated psi so he changed the unloader and that solved that
problem.
