Cyclo vs Orbital Polisher (StepSon)
« on: October 07, 2009, 10:45:34 PM »
I would like a VLM hand tool other than the std polisher approach (didn't work for me)

Anyone here use either or both of these?

How does the standard GEM unit pad differ from the CCS version?

On the cyclo what pad or brush you guys use?

On stairs I use either a Makita polisher with tuway or fiber plus pad or both I also use a oreck Orbiter with tuway or 15" glad pad.

CCS/Gem is basically the same thing.

I use a Cyclo with brushes. I have the full selection of brushes so I just match it to what I'm cleaning. Usually white.

Haven't tried any pads on it yet.

Does anyone know if the CCS stepson comes with a CCS pad driver or is it the same as buying a regular gem orbital polisher ?

I might be bidding on some theater chairs and was wondering what would be the tool to use.

Anyone here had any luck on chairs with either of these tools?

And what is an effective way to remove gum from this type of chair?

I cleaned over 2000 office chairs last year on a job with the Cyclo. Worked great! The machine is lightweight so its not too tiring.

Solvent is the best thing to use for gum on chairs. I've used Vacaway Pig Out for gum with great results. Relatively fast acting. You still need to agitate with a bone scraper to speed it up. You can try Helgel but Its harder to deal with when doing encap work (white residue). No residue from Pig Out.

The difference between the two is with the Cyclo you are scrubbing and encapping ....

Where with the Stepson you are scrubbing and padcapping (removing soils while encapping).

Think cleaning with a Cimex vs. cleaning with a Brute/Orbot/Op machine with pads.

When we clean chairs, we prevac, spray, clean with stepson & gladpad, then post vac when dry/almost dry.

WOW! Never seen someone put the Orbot next to a Brute. Isn't there some kind of chemical reaction if a HOS touches a CCS machine?  :D

My Vento sits next to my Commercial Breeze in the van all the time without blowing out the side...well most of the time. I have come out to the van, to find the Vento flat on the floor, weeping some kind of fluid, while the C. Breeze has a smug look on it's control handle...

I'll let my wife know that you disapprove of her cord winding skills.

I'm sure she will loose sleep

Why do some cords do that? Is it the cord quality or the actual plastic/material surrounding the cord that eventually does not look straight anymore? The rotovacs also have the same type of cords.

My op machine does not have that.  I think if it did i'd be upset, guess i'm not used to it.

Cord quality. The HOS did it from day one, it is light and flexible. The CBreeze's original cord didn't do it, but it got frayed and split and it was stiff and heavy, so I replaced it with a soft 12 ga. 50 ft. extension cord from Home Depot, as I needed it the next day for jobs...

Needless to say, if the look bother you, stiff and heavy is the way to go

That makes sense.  The cimex cord is like that heavy and stiff.

I own and use my Cyclo almost every day. Had it 15 years now. Can't kill it. Anyway, I use the white brushes and 100% cotton towels under the brushes. AMAZING results! Just move it slowly so the towel don't slide off. Microfiber towels also work well.  You could also order the "Hook & Loop" cover for it  along with an array of other brushes and pads. A Top notch Machine that I highly recommend.

Hey Mike,

I see your pole/handle held up by a bungee. If you have more than one pole/handle consider mounting a piece of pvc pipe from the wall or ceiling of the van. Just slide em in and out as you need em. Works great for me. Then again, I have a couple wwing poles that are 6 to 8 feet long before extension.
