Security threats in WordPress
« on: January 22, 2011, 03:34:53 PM »
I have found some forum topics with HostGator reguarding a pipeline security issue found with WordPress based themes. It has something to do with the blogging aspect and also the htaccess. However I could not find ways to make it more secure.
The reason for this post is, While I was connected to Hostgater apparently a boatload of site take-over viruses and spyware got into my account. I tried to veiw my site and Dang if It wasnt even My site I was looking at. It was my address just not my site. Long story short.
almost all of my sites content was removed, erased then hijacked.
All this was done in about 5 minutes being connected to wordpress.
checkout my site and tell me what you think? if it's still there.
http://nutechcarpetcare.com "I have it forwarded to new site because I am redoing that site since It never loads right."

There are security plug ins for Wordpress.

I think I also disabled something but I don't remember what?

This site gets hammered all the time from bots, etc that want to hack the site. Security is a major problem these days and takes vigilance. Even then someone with the right skills will discover a flaw in a software program and try to take advantage of it.

I will check on the plugins you mentioned. the worst bots are from google gmail program. hence all of the spam from things like craigslist.
And its really sad that someone has nothing better to do than hack a carpet cleaners website. LMAO I could see the enticement of E-Commerce sites trying to get info to exploit.
