phones ( smart phones )
« on: November 10, 2010, 12:19:22 PM »
I think quite a few of you that are using smartphones are with blackberry?

are you thinking of staying with them, or switching over to android/iphone?

My contract is running up and the other options are seeming that much more appealing...since the other offerings from iphone/android have built in 720p hd video camera's and excellent photo taking capabilities. Also their much better web browser, that actually looks like real internet lol.

case in point....this phone

I got a Droid in January and it's awesome.  I find myself texting customers and love receiving email from my gmail account.

Got the phone FREE by signing a 2 year agreement with Verizon at www.phandroid.com  Great deals and lots of info

I have a Droid also and love it.  Don't hardly use the desktop anymore.  I use the calendar, maps, navigation apps all the time.  Also use it to run credit cards when needed.  Can't compare to the blackberry I've never used one.

Cleantech - Make sure the droid you pick has a flash.  I have the Droid Eris and it does not have a flash and indoor pictures look like crap.  I also prefer the ones that have a slide out QWERTY keyboard. because I dont have to look at the phone to type once I get used to it. With the touchscreen keybord u always have to look at the touchscreen to type.

Current phone blackberry curve 8330  with an AMAZING 64 mb of of memory! lol :-[

Question to the android owners:
          1. besides running a gmail account, do you have any problems recieving email from other sources? or did you have to route those through your gmail ?
          2. Also how is your battery life? last an entire day under heavy use?

Joel, which BB does your wife have? I am leaning towards a qwerty keyboard, but it will depend on what my provider brings in.
I would like a duel flash for sure if i can get it :)

So BigO,Grant ...you both use the Motorola droid?
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-DROID-US-EN
or one of the many variations? x,2 etc etc etc ? or a different Android phone ?

Jon your phone is amazing, we should all upgrade to it!  :13:

I text like Joel too, counted 65 txts/emails in the last 6 hours  :-\ lol

I text more than I talk, prob do 3-6k texts a month easily.  Matter of fact I only call and receive calls when it's work related, and during jobs I'm always texting or emailing people.  Much easier that way as we know it.  On my crackberry 8900 curve I have 2 work emails and 2 personals on the main home screen, that's what gets used the most.  We are now month to month w/ Tmobile, I have 3 8900 Curves all with unlimited everything, so my next phone will most likely be a touch screen droid.  The droid reviews always seem to be great. I've also gotten used to my 3G Ipad, that I don't use the desktop all that much, also use for google maps and don't need a gps anymore.

i have that there are buttloads of apps for the droid, ipad etc. I even found wordpress templates and apps I can design for those phones. kinda cool to think about. I am hopefully going to make a webpage enhanced for droid ipad, so custy can actually add rooms, services and do an online quote fron their phones. I will emphasized on HOPEFULLY. lol

I have a crackberry, and even though it was a big step up for me, it does suck.  I use the email apps a lot, have four emails on it.  It is extremely convenient to have internet on the phone, why just the other day one of my clients wanted to know the birds name in Charlie brown, you know, Snoopy's friend.  Well in about 20 seconds I had it, Woodstock.  They were amazed!  But they were old.  lol.  I think the Droid would be a huge step over the Crackberry.  I have heard that it is difficult to use the touch screen with cleaner's hands, if you know what I mean, and while driving.  I can pretty much handle my phone without looking at it sometimes.  I would look at the new phone out by windows??? I forget.  But much easier apps, less of the crap you don't use, and quicker "in and out" usage.  Remember that as a business person you will only have time to use what you really need, which will be internet, email, phone, gps and voice dialing.  I do use facebook, but the rest could basically not be there and I wouldn't know the difference.

I use the net a TON, and bb's browser (besides os 6) really sucks compared to the other phones ive played with.

I love the bb push email but at this point thats the only thing i like about it, i know 4 people that have bb's so blackberry's messenger service isnt keeping me lol

Kerry did you watch the initial video i posted of the htc? that phone is absolutely amazing - flip out keyboard too

Also looking into the up and coming android 2.2 and 2.3 software ..... wow!

but again back to my question to the android users how easy is the phone for multiple email accounts ?

I know it wont be as good as separate camera/video camera, but able to snap high rez pictures, since its in your pocket and hd video, since its in your pocket is So huge in my books

Here is a browser shoot out

I have to get with the times. I don't even have texting on my phone. I recall years ago I purchased a pocket pc with browser and it sucked bad. I'm sure they have become more reliable since then.

I try not to use my browser on my crackberry, it sucks.  Only use it for fb, emails, texts, and calls.

I have iTouch, it's great. Can't compare it to Blackberry because never had one. E-mail and internet are great on that phone.

I moved up from a Blackberry Tour which was a great phone but terrible to browse web to the Blackberry Torch.  I love the Torch !  It is the best of everything in one phone.  Web browsing is good, I have the option of touch screen or using the Dpad.  For me it cant be beat.  I had a samsung Instinct (all touch ) & a Samsung moment ( all touch ) and then went back to the BB Tour.

I've harped on this before, but I'm sticking with the BB. Probably a better version this coming spring. RIM BB's are still the only phone that integrates directly with Microsoft Outlook directly, and I use Outlook ALOT. Email is pushed, rather than fetched like every other phone, which means extended batter life. All contacts, notes, calendar and tasks are transferred seamlessly including all the detail like categories, reminders and alarms. I can attach documents with Documents to Go, though the screen is too small to make it useful. I don't browse the Web from the phone and probably still wouldn't with a screen twice th size. If apples finds a way to integrate with Outlook, I'll probably give it a try.

I swear it stinks when you go into NO KIDDING 30 cell phone shops and only one! actually had a phone I can play with. I ened up odredering via internet. an Ipone, a blackbewy, a droid X, lg optimus S, HTC EVO 4G. I sent back 4 phones yesterday. and kept the purple Optimus for my sweety, and I kept the HTC EVO.
My EVO, has an HDMI port to hook upto my HD tv. accesses internet though WIFI on home network. all droid phones have the google talk app. it uses internet so you dont have to use minutes.
I can access email from yahoo, google, hotmail, website emails all 6 of them! :great:
Now to be honest. I am gonna try to get customers emails for my own marketing attempts.   :13:

I am ashamed to say. I should have gotten one sooner. and the blckberry is impossible to dial with. maybe if I was a 12 girl with tiny fingur tips I could use the darn thing.
