Need a new Printer
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:59:46 AM »
My HP Officejet 7310 has finally died.  :73:

I like all in one printers.  HP replacement for this printer is now the 8500 series. I'm hesitant to get another HP. The last time I needed customer service it was a nightmare. Granted that was right after I contacted them about the first 7310 defective unit. They did finally send a replacement but it wasn't easy. Also tired of the expensive ink.

Was looking at alternatives and came across the Canon MX870 and MX882. Looks like these use multiple ink cartridges. Not sure I like that? Each one is less than HP so maybe it would work out fine. Got an email flyer from Staples this morning.......... The MX870 will be on sale this Wednesday for $79 which is pretty cheap. The MX882 is a bit faster but I'm not sure I need the speed. It retails out at around $150.

Anyone have experience with any of these printers? I'm willing to spend more for a quality, reliable unit if needed.

the MX870 is wireless so that's a bonus. I have never dealt with their customer service though, so I wouldn't know.

are you sure you want to go with an all-in-one again?

I gave up on buying ink and broke down and bought a laser printer. I didn't fork over the big bucks for a color one, just a simple black and white, but it prints fast and the toner last so much longer.

canons have been great to me in the past.
I prefer the individual ink cartridges personally
Easier to refill your self if you do that.
I think I'll try lazer next.initial cost higher but printing capacity is insane?

cartridgeworld.com

The cartridges are cleaned and tested before they are filled. Really lowers cost.

I have an All i one HP Lazer Jet 3015. I like the in cartridge it last forever. What I don't like about is that you can print on any paper thicker that regular printing paper.

Here's a bit of an update..............

Decided to go for the Daily Deal at Staples. Checked last night and they showed stock at the closest store (20 miles each way). I get there at 8:30 this AM. No printers. Store inventory showed 3 but no one could find them. I drove home to order online........Out of Stock! I wasted all morning trying to get one of these printers for the one day deal price.

I ordered it from another company online I have done business with that had it in stock. It cost $20 more delivered. Should have thought of them in the first place. It probably cost me that much in time plus a wasted morning. Originally I wasn't looking to get the cheapest price on a printer. This model was one I was considering and they happened to have it on sale today. Figured I could also look at it before purchasing as I've never owned a Canon product. Did at least get to see the display model.

Had already learned that Staples does these teaser deals to get you in the door. Their regular prices are not that great so I am selective about what I buy there. How do you suppose I would answer a customer service survey right now?

Will give an update when I get the now $99 printer. Still a great price for an all in one printer. I paid something like $750 for the one I have now.

Sweet Deal on the print !
Just FYI if you bring in old cartridges to Staples you get a $5 coupon towards new ink in the future.. But on the other end of the street, Office Max has a refill station and only charges $10 per Cartridge, just got mine done today and thought I would share..

I have one of those "customer reward" memberships at Staples and get $3 per cartridge returned.

Got the printer set up and it seems to work great.  :great:

Even though this is considered a "slow" printer its faster (and quieter) than my old one. The instructions were a bit complicated looking so I basically ignored them and had it set up fairly quickly. We now have 5 computers set up to use this printer wireless. Will be interesting to see what the ink cost is versus the HP printer.

Slightly off-topic but;

I bought a HP something something low dollar ($99) laser printer.

I am happy, Staples is happy and the girl at Circle K is happy. (I told her she smells good)

and look..... NO one had to close the deal. I knew what I wanted and knew my budget... i told the dude (sales guy) he showed me the 3 he had...told me the ups-n-downs of each and I made my call.

NO amount of sales training would have made me spend one cent more. In fact, they tried to 'sell' me a 2 year warranty'. Nope.

so... my HP laser sumthin is as good a printer as I need.

and she did smell sweet.
