I personally would not waste my time on  sabataging my competitors, better to spend the time and effort concentrating on your own business. Karma can bite you on the **** and usally you get worse than you gave. Life is to short. Of course if they draw first blood then the gloves come off.

amen on karma.. I have no bad karma coming to me. but however major franchises do... lol I thought it was funny that even my site name is do-able in 7 differant .coms  but it funny to be able to lock in the entire internet against your competition. I did buy a few carpetcleaningmedford.coms tho.. alll mine!!! :13:

Nutech, that is not bad Karma, it's called smart business.  It's even in one of the big marketing books.  I used to get lots of jobs from one of the big companies here in town because people always misspelled their name, so I put it in my site with the misspelling and BAM!  All of their big money advertising was giving me about a job a week.  They finally caught on, or maybe google did, and I don't rank highly for the error anymore.  You guys really need to think outa the box like nutech did, and like i did by accident one time.  Pay attention to what keywords people are finding your site with!  You could be very surprised to find out that the big money company is sending you business by default, and you need to jump on that wave and ride it til it hits the beach.

Update, I just checked and someone found my site just yesterday with the misspelling using my city name, and guess what, I was number one!! hahahahahahaha.  suckers.  I would feel bad if you did buy your locally owned and operated competitors site names, but I don't feel bad at all if you buy chemdry.net.  Know what I mean?  Think about it, let's say there is carpetcleaningdenver.com already taken.  So you buy carpetcleaningdenver.net.  Is that bad?? Hell no.  If you don't someone else will.  So why is it bad when you buy stanleyreemer.com?  It's not.  But like I said, I do have a moral line at buying your local competitors name with a different .something, it's just not right.  That being said, there is another larsons carpet care out there, in Klamath Falls Ore.  It was first come first serve, and I won.  But he could buy a different dot something and still have his same name with a different site, it just might confuse some people when my site pops up because I rank higher, or visa versa.  That is pretty uncommon given that google will give you local results first.

I dont think theres anything evil about it. Compa nies have been doing it since the beginning of the internet. But ask yourself, if a big company hasnt snatched up all variations of their website yet, do you think they are concerned?  You will most likely just be wasting time and hard earned money. How many of you have gone to websites with the .biz .tv extentions etc?  I cant count on one hand for me. But i have mistyped urls and have been taken to "other" sites. But i quickly realize the error and make the correction regardless of what the dummy site is pushing. Its almost ingrained that we dont trust misguided sites anyway. I agree with earlier comment of spend the money on furthering your own business. Lord knows thats hard enough these days.

Noooo.....I just dont want nor do others for this place to turn into another MB. Say the "f" word on your own time. I am not saying I have never said it or used it in a sentence but in here it is inappropriate.

AAAAAHHHHHHH, nothing like "the man" watching out for us.  It's kinda like the government telling us what is wrong and what is right.  We are not smart enough to know what is good for us, so we need uncle sam to do it for us.  Seriously, do we really need a bad word editor on this site???? It's a little too "obamish" for me.  If someone curses and it offends you, don't respond to that post.  Or maybe just send a little friendly "hey" to remind them of the rules.  Yeah I know, I curse like a sailor, but dangit I don't need big brother breathing down my neck even when I'm expressing myself on an open forum where we are supposed to be able to do just that, express ourselves as our constitution has allowed us to do!  I get enough of that from the guberment and my wife!  Seriously, turn it off.

Just my two cents....

Even if you bought that misspelled domain it doesn't mean that it will pop up on the first page of google even if people actually spell it they way you have it in your domain. In order for it to appear on the first page, you have to do SEO, therefore spend additional money. I just don't think it's smart, why not just promote your websites?

exactly Alpha.  In my case of buying stanleysteemer.us, it's just for fun, didn't cost me much and it's a great conversation starter.  But, let's use an example of something bigger, let's say garmin gps (first thing I saw).  Now Garmin has a site, www.garmin.com.  So you are looking for a Garmin, and do a search for "garmin gps".  You see a site on the results that says www.garmin.net.  Great!  You go there and buy new gadgets for your garmin, thinking it's the official site.  They just made bank off of you, while the real garmin didn't.  In that case you can see it is certainly worth the effort to build a site that will compete with the "real" site.  In our world of cleaning it is rarely worth doing, since we show up at a house.  Unless you wanna wear your competitors shirt I suggest not doing it.

TroyD was talking about taking advantage of people misspelling a url and ending up on a dummy site.  That is called "typo squatting".  A VERY good example of that would be Stanley Steemer.  How many people do you think actually type in the correct spelling of the name "stanley steemer"?? No one.  They all type it in as "stanley steamer".  Therefore, if I buy the site www.stanleysteamer.com I could get more traffic than www.stanleysteemer.com, the REAL companies site!!! Oh, and don't try it, it's already sold.

Seriously, I don't need a babysitter, thanks.  Just because Obama likes to destroy our constitution doesn't make it right.  We are all ADULTS here.  Well, mostly.  But I highly doubt anyone younger than 21 is reading anything here.

Are you kidding me? Kerry this Nutech guy was warned 3 times about using the "F" word in this forum and he ignored the posts...and then started a thread with that word titled in it.
If you think there is censorship here because of people not wanting to read foul language and want to equate that to Obama and the constitution then I don't know what to tell you. "We are all ADULTS here." Yeah, exactly. So what's the problem?

There is no babysitting here. Actually 99.9% of the time I USED to wonder why Mike even needs a moderator. Everyone here is so professional. But if you want to throw the "F" word around and you don't feel complete unless you do.......have at it. I'll find somewhere else to hang out.

If you want to get butthurt over not being able to talk like a trucker and that is going to be such and issue. Then im sorry. There is a reason why this forum is the way it is. Professional "adults".

AZ - I didn't do that specifically for you.

I'm not going to accept that language here nor do I have time to constantly monitor it. If the software can do that then I'm all for it. One less thing for me to deal with.

If someone wants to swear there are plenty of other places to do that.

Haven't noticed that the software has edited much since this post?

Chem - True about the Moderator. We are very fortunate that we don't need a moderator on every part of the forum. It can really be a full time job on some forums. The people here are professionals and interested in sharing information.

CB or Mike. what posts was I warned in? I never saw any warnings at all. nor did I recieve a hey dummy stop cursing email. Lol But either way I do agree its not professional. and I was wrong for using it. My job here on this forum is the help out when needed, educate when asked, give my two penny's oppinion. and to also get backlinks of course. and most importantly to promote this site. now cursing on here IMHO kinda makes it unsavory for other professionals like MB. I absolutely loathe that place. just a bunch of rejected hasbeens or crude a-holse. with no ethics other than turning a buck and and male pizzing contests. who's got the biggest. blah blah blah
