Left a spot on customers carpet
« on: January 30, 2012, 04:29:23 PM »
2 weeks ago I did a house that had an almost commercial type of carpet in the kitchen. Probably some sort of indoor/outdoor.

My sprayer wasn't working so hot and to make a long story short I ended up spilling a spot of chemical (intensity Red mix). When I left there was still a spot that was darker about 12" in diameter but I just assumed it was still wet and told them it should dry and go away. Today the homeowner called me and told me that the spot is still there.

How can I get rid of this spot? I do not have a way of extracting so can I just re wet this spot and pad till dry? Will this spot come out? Help!

Vacuum?

Is the spot lighter or darker?

The spot is darker. It looks like a wet spot.

It may not be anything more than wicking of something that was at the base of the carpet.

Test with a white towel and spotter to see if it is easily removed. If so just reclean that spot with a heavy mix of encap.

I would have suspected a lighter spot if it was from the cleaner?

I just ordered this from ES http://www.excellent-supply.com/Zebra-Spot-Brush-for-Carpet-Spot-Removal-and-Stain-Removal-_p_16.html and will see how well it works. Get those type stains up before the normal cleaning.

I guess I can't say for sure yet if it is darker or lighter but there was a darker spot there when I left, I just assumed it was wet and would dry up and not be seen. I never guessed that the spot would stay. It was just a good heavy amount of encap solution that sprayed out of my sprayer in one small spot. She told me that there is linolium under the carpet so I suppose it had no where to go. Hopefully it comes out easily.

Should I use more encap or plain hot water and then pad?

Vacuum thoroughly first. This will help remove encap and soils from the area.

Test with a white cloth to see what transfers.

If the spot transfers? Use a heavy mix of encap and reclean.

I use Disolval (spelling) when normal spotter doesn't do it. Similar to Goo Gone.

OK, I guess I just never imagined that it would require specialty spotters to remove a spot made by cleaning solution!

Seemed to come out perfectly. It must have been a wicking issue because there was almost more dirt in that one spot than what came up originaly in the whole room. Hopefully no more call backs for that one!
