« on: May 04, 2011, 09:33:11 PM »
I am getting ready to try encap for the first time and can't decide best way to apply chem, i will be using a 175, should i use the solution on the 175 to put down the chem, or spray it on, should i use the carpet brush or pad driver with fiber plus pads, these are the options i have, i of course want to do which ever gives the best results. So what do all you seasoned veterans think

lots of answers to your questions. Is it an open area If so use the tank. FP pads remove very little soil I have never used a carpet brush so I cant comment on that hope it helps

Spray your chem down and run the 175 over it.

CGD just use pads. home type carpet with nasties in it use the brush first then pad. Providing the bristles are soft bristles meant for carpets..
It is a good idea to invest in an adjustable glide style carpet brush.. Not the old style for shampooing 70's carpet...
Make sure you soak your pad first. soak it with water let most of the water drip out, Be advised it will throw water upon starting.
Spray small areas of encap juice. No more than 100 s.f. untill you get it down pact. Color safe testing is important too..

If you spray rather than use the tank the chem will have time to dwell to make soil removal easier also the tank may spill out the top when you lay it back to swap pads.

All good answers.  Here is what I do:  I use a 175 all the time, for comm work, and this is what I do, fill the tank with encap juice and use a fiber plus pad.  I also pre spray if I need to.  Now for resi work.  I again use a 175, I spray down encap juice, take a cotton or glad pad and put it in a bucket with water, then ring it out really well and go and clean.  Just make sure you only do like 100 ft at a time.

What are you going to be using for pads? You can rinse FP's If you are doing straight encap You can use one pad. If you are going to extract soil. it depends on the soil load. I have used as many as 10 pads on a real nasty 1000 sq jobs

well i have thought about using pads but don't know that i want to or would like having to always be cleaning pads at the end of the day every day  seems like it would be a pain in the "A" double "S" what do you do to clean all those pads, your home washing machine or go to laundry matt?

Dirty pits like the one I did today was 25 pads for about 1000 sf.  Less dirty places something closer to 10 might be more normal for me.  This is with OP pads, I think those big thick loopy cotton bonnets some folks use with their 175's you'd probably use a lot less.

As far as laundry I invested in a top of the line front loader a couple years ago, makes all the difference.  I never had any luck getting pads clean at the laundromat because they have really fast cycles so unless I ran them through 3 times they came out looking dirty.  My front loader has a pre-soak setting and a sanitize setting where it takes the hot water and heats it up an extra 75 degrees.  I can do an extra rinse cycle too.  I can fit about 30 dirty pads in one load on this mega-cycle.  So with a washer like this it's really not any work at all, I just bring in the bags of dirty pads from the van, dump them in, turn on the washer and and I'm done.  When I have more than 30 dirty pads in a day I do 2 loads.  Since I use the sanitize setting plus extra rinse I'm not worried about using the same washer as I do my clothes in.  For the rare job where there were some pet issues or a total crap-hole (literally) I will run them through a second cycle with bleach.

Front load is the way to go when trying to clean the pads, I don't have one so i get to go to the laundry mat. They have a HUGE tipple load front loader that I can fit 15 or so large bonnets into.

I just use soap from Costco, and sometimes I'll bleach, and every now and then I will use Mrs Stuarts liquid bluing to make them bright white again. if I have done real smelly jobs I put some odorcide in there to make it smell nice.

I clean for some of the laundry mat owners so I haven't paid to clean my pads in a long while. plus I have to drop by all of the laundry mats every now and then anyways to collect quarters from my arcades. I have 4  laundry mats with my arcade games in them now, all classics like pac man, donkey kong, and tetris. I want to build a frogger next

Just throw the pads in whatever washer you have access too and forget about it. Only bad thing is if you have a crappy washer/dryer you will find yourself doing multiple loads of the same batch of pads. Its not that big of a pain, at least we dont have to fold them.

We dont? What the??

Why didn't someone tell me?

Kevin- You do not need a front loader. Those of us who have them were just looking for an excuse to brag about them.

Ps.
Mine are forest green. Beat that Grant!

We have a top load Maytag set.

10 years old. Has washed multiple pad and clothes loads. Worked fine?

Will try front load ..................when I need to replace the set I have now. They do use less water. Not that I don't have plenty.

Be careful buying Glad pads right now. I hear some are falling apart and some aren't. I also hear you are out of luck if you get bad ones.

It's what I hear....confirm for yourself before buying.

I have a dozen of Vacaways pads. Havn't used them yet but they look real durable.

Also, do a search on here for pads. Plenty of info.

Use the fiber plus pads, as far as applying your chems, what I found works best with a rotary is to prespray the bad areas and shower feed your chem solution. I also have used a bucket heater in the tank to the my solution hot.

word, I got 12 tri pads I believe and they all were shredded to carp after first wash, then got 12 more cuz I thought I must have got a batch first go round, and second 12 same stuff.  Seriously who is going to make some el primo pads now, mike, Jon, Phil? I also got some cottons and they actually stayed alive even though everyone was saying they fall apart...  I went old school and got green strippers and cotton gran daddy loopers and imo are still best for results and durability

I'm doing some research on this. Not exactly thrilled with the present possibilities.

Appears it will take some investment to make these. Not sure how much or what the market would be?

$20 a pad is rediculous! I can see that for a bonnet but not these pads. These guys want to start gouging us like they do gas prices then forget it! I will come up with my own thing. If I have to run cheap rags I will. I just cant see paying $20 for a pad. $15 is my max.

Hi, you may want to watch the video " How to Encap" It is an 8 minute video that shows a single and two step method for encapsulation, and it does not try to sell you anything.
