Vinyl Acetate interlocking foam mats
« on: April 11, 2011, 02:46:58 PM »
I have a client who owns a Martial Art school and has this foam rubber type interlocking mats made out of vinyl acetate and he wants tot get it cleaned.

I have HWE system.  Any ideas on what I should tell this guy?  I don't think my equipment will do the trick since (from what I have read) the foam is water resistant.

Thanks!

The best way to clean those is with a dry vapor machine.  Those mats need to be sanitized as well as cleaned.  It is easy to do assuming you have a dry vapor machine.  Just put a cloth or small towel over the floor tool and run it over the floor.  It will clean the floor as it sanitizes it.  You probably won't need any chems.  You will have to change the cloth as you go. We use bar towels. Cheap and we buy them at Sams Club 24 for like $10 bucks. and you can wash them over and over.  We have done several of Martial arts places and they came out great.  Ended up selling one of our customers a machine, when he told us he had found something similar on ebay.  Now he does it himself one a week, just for sanitation reasons and to help keep it looking clean.

You could probably use a tile wand with your current system but what about water getting into the joints?

I like Jim's idea. Thinking it would be less messy too?

I'm not sure how to physically put a towel down in such away that when I go to use my scrub wand the towel won't get sucked up into wand.  Does make since?

Jim's method refers to using a dry steam vapor machine.

I'm not sure how you could use a towel with a HWE process of any sort unless it was to wipe up after.

Do you have one of these or something like it? http://www.pmftools.com/prodWand68.php

How many joints are there? Is it like every 4' or something? How big an area does this cover?

I've cleaned rubberized flooring with a tile/grout wand before and it was relatively easy. Just be careful around the joint area. You don't want a lot of water to get trapped underneath.

No, I am using a standard scrub wand with a green glide attached to it.

I wouldn't use a standard scrub wand.

It will be messy. The spray is not contained like the tile/grout wands.

We use and sell these along with other vapor steam machines.  We even have one that operates on a true 220 volt that uses 2 110 outlets on separate circuits with vacuum function, great machine but a little expensive.  We sell it with our mattress cleaning business package.  If you want to see these machines then go to our web site here  http://www.smart-cleaning-solutions.com/site/1426224/page/1626435  These are all commercial grade machines.
