Bud,
I'd love to go head to head with the El Diablo. If we can make it up to Maine I'll let you know.

OK - That's a bit too far South for me. Northeast to me would be further to the NORTHEAST!  ;D

Mike ....we just can't make it that far north on this trip. Hopefully later this year.

Jeff we ended up going to indianapolis. We had a challenge from a guy with a Vortex TM with Rotovacs. We did film it. I have no idea of how to post a video but you can go to our website(www.steamindemon.com) click on videos. It's the one titled SD vs Vortex w/rotovacs.

Steamin Demon Carpet Extractor - Setup and Demonstration

Here's a nice video on the Demon.  Now I'm wishing I'd never taken the plastic sheeting cover off my hoses.  Only I don't do bathroom sink hookups since 2 times when I did that water came shooting out from under the sink.  What do you do when you want to connect a supply hose in one place and the dump hose somewhere else (another room, etc.)?

Also, how do you handle when doing a large house with 2 or 3 floors?  Hook up once on each floor or do you run from one place with 100+ feet of hoses?  This has been very frustrating to me but seeing your ease of use with this machine I know I must be doing some things wrong.

Oh one more question, how much hose is your "typical" setup.  Do you carry a full 100' hose on top of the unit like in that video, or is that 50 or 75?

Grant  First thanks for posting the video. As for your questions about hoses.......when your discharging in a location away from where your hooked up you can get a regular garden hose extension. I'd put valves on each end.
When your cleaning a 2 or 3 story home I'd hook up on the first floor and run extra hose as needed.
Also for faucets, if there plastic avoid them but otherwise you should be okay. It's a good idea to look under the sink before hooking up, if any things leaking or looks like it wants to leak avoid it. A shower head fitting is a good alternative in those cases. I hope I've helped.   Mike Downey

grant,

i'm not sure if yer on the market and considering a demon but if you have a portable extractor, i can show you how to convert it into a high flow portable for under 100 bucks.
years ago, i was converting old porty's to high flow, and have recently converted one of my porty's to not only high flow, but extreme extraction, along with auto-dump. this current conversion cost me less then 200 bucks.
just the other day, i added 1500 psi capability for hard surface, giving me a total investment of under 350 bucks for conversion to an existing machine that can do everything except cook me breakfast!

A while ago I was contemplating buying a SD,  haven't given the machine any thought for a year or 2.    I was thinking about getting a small porty next year for a back up, but I'm now again considering a SD. (Mike makes it look so easy) I may have to make a trip to bellingham and visit my old buddy Grant to demo this thing.

That's kind of where my head is at as well. I'm thinking through how to tweak my message and marketing. Somehow, I don't think "Low Moisture" could continue to live as the main message that seems to catch attention. Thoughts?

Also, I've seen the grout brush for the Orbot. Is it soft enough to use on carpets as an agitator. Or maybe there are other brushes available? My Oreck Lowboy 9000 has several brushes for a variety of surfaces, but I prefer to drive the Orbot any day. And the onboard spray can't be beat.

Micky,  I got one about 1 1/2 years ago.  I use it regularly on one commercial account that I clean.  Otherwise I've used it on pet urine jobs and not much else.  I haven't found it to be very easy to use and maneuver around homes with the hoses etc. This video makes it look so easy it has me thinking a lot of it is about ME being a dumb-ass or something.

Andy is always welcome to burn a tank of gas or two and come for a visit.

Concerning the hoses the following will help
1. After unrolling them, uncoil them.
2. If you can see the hoses and your working away from them your doing it right.
3. There should be a hose hanger on the handle that allows you to switch the hoses from one side of the machine to the other.
4. Try to keep both hands on the handle and work the hoses with your feet.
Once you get used to this you should be able to clean pretty quick. When I clean a room I usually have to move the hoses only once. After I prespray I'll keep all the hose on one side of the machine(say the left side) then I'll clean the right side of the room. When I'm done cleaning that side I'll shift the hoses to the side I cleaned and start on the other side shifting the hose hanger as needed. Take your time at first. Once you get used to it you should be able to clean about any room in 5-10 minutes.

Good tips Mike. I think that just like with anything else, you just have to get used to using it. Once you do, it's not an issue.

After all, you're not using any more hoses than any other portable or truckmounted machine.
