Power Reel, Standard Reel or No Reel?
« on: December 17, 2010, 11:09:20 AM »
Which should you use or not use?

For many years we used a standard 300' vac and solution hose reel. Power reels were nice but I just couldn't justify the price. It isn't that hard to wind up a hose. I might change my mind now that I am old and lazy but keeping that in mind I wouldn't be cleaning anyway.

We always kept a few lengths of hose off a reel. They were coiled and strapped with hose straps. Sometimes its just easier to start with something like that then pull some off the truck to meet it.

Thoughts?

I was thinking of doing the strap thing for temporary.  But my thought s also went to the lovely mud , snow , sand, salts etc. messes we have here in Maine.    I figured fist job the hoses are going to be crapped up, thus the hosier cleaner.  Can't quite see how to roll up a hose reel 1 handed while the other is holding the hose cleaner, that's where electric would be the cats a$$     ;D
Never had to deal with  lengths of hose that long, going to be quite a learning experience.

I can see myself down the road now- :banghead:

Don't bother with the hose cleaner. Been there done that.

Keep a couple sections to use inside the house. Coil those up and use inside only. The rest on your hose reel can get dragged around. Hose off once in a while with a pressure wash attachment.

Like I said before, Electric is worth the investment.  I won't even mess with the manual.  You would change your mind if you had an electric on one of your trucks, there's a thread on another board (mb) about the same topic, you should see the replies 99% electric.  Manual is a good way to start, but I work too hard.

Sissies!

That's an employee health benefit.  :86:

Seriously though, If you can't use a manual hose reel then............. It just isn't that hard to do.

Next thing you know you'll want a machine that does the cleaning for you. OK, I might go for that.

If you can push a wand hooked up to a 1200 cfm machine you don't need no stinkin' power reel.  ;D

The machine that cleans for you hasn't quite been invented yet? I'll put that on my project list.
