knock off wands
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:28:36 PM »
Some of the wands out there are knock offs of the better ones. Are they really worth it or  am I better to get the real thing for more money?  I have one I dislike already. I'm looking to go with something around 15" with 4 to 6 jets,  a production wand for big areas.

You know I cant say that I have ever really heard anyone complain about the ProChem 6 jet TI wand. Costs a freaking boatload but just not many complaints.  I have heard lots of complaints about the different knockoffs though.

The Prochem wand is over priced and over rated. We used to own one. I was the only one who would use it. No one else would even pick it up. Eventually sold it and bough another PMF 802.

What are some of the wands you are looking at? If going that wide you want 2" tube.

E-bay wands, Tmf wands, Pmf wands.  Yes I want 2" tube with 4 jets or 6 jets ?  Going to a 14" or 15" wand, how many jets should I go with? Just curious with some of the six jetters wouldn't it put alot of water down? ( I realize that I may have to rejet to suit my application)
A "balanced system" Mike calls it.

a wand the size ya speak of should be at least 4-5 jet but most i ever seen were 6!

Yes, Castex made 16 and 14" wands. 1.5" tubed. I always thought that they didn't get good extraction? Then again we had them hooked up to smaller machines than available today.

There are only so many wand manufacturers out there. I kind of like 4 jet for a 14" wand.  Like you said you can change jet sizes and angles. Generally the more jets the smaller each will be and the more likely a jet clog. Not a big deal just something to be aware of.

PMF is one of the originals made here in US. Here is a new Titanium wand they have http://www.pmftools.com/prodWand152.php I didn't see much else except the 802(12") that strikes me? Just found this one for sale at Magic Wand Co for $749 so its not cheap. I don't think I would spend the money on this unless you were going to use it every day? You could buy 2 lesser expensive wands for this price and increase your production by running another wand. Your machine should be able to do 200' per wand or so?

I just emailed Westpak to see if their wands, tools and valves are made in USA. They have a 14" http://www.westpakusa.com/Item150/14___TRUCKMOUNT_WAND_MAXIMUM_FLOW.aspx. This one looks interesting and might be a good option?

Just checked Ebay and I can't believe the amount of cheap stuff on there!  :-\. I would be hesitant about going with an off brand. The wand itself is probably fine but what about the valve? Those need rebuilding once in a while and you will need parts. You can always retrofit another valve on it but is it worth the extra effort? Then again if its cheap enough, maybe?

Just thought about another wand.....http://www.butlersystem.com/store/butler-5jet-double-bend-floor-wand-p-277.html?osCsid=01b43d641ab7d3ec46e8b27a4117bd00 This is a 14" 1.5" tubed wand. Looks like the same one I bought from them years ago. Very comfortable to work with. nice valve setup too. If you are going to run 1.5" whip this wand would work well.

One tip on these wands.........buy some extra jets and have them handy. Swap out when needed on a job. Faster than cleaning them out as you go. Too much lost production doing that. We kept the tips in medicine or film bottles.

Just got a response from Westpak............

"Our products are designed in California, made in China, with some assembly in the US, and all tested in the USA before shipping to our customers in the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and Japan."

I had a feeling that was the case but thought I would verify.

Bud - You belong to another forum!!! I'm shocked.

Westpak is available from a number of dealers. I didn't shop it a lot to see what the pricing was?

If the price is competitive buy the one from TMF. Tell Rob we said Hi!

Best of luck with whatever you decide to get.

I also like PMF.

Contacted them to see what is required to become a distributor. Family run business made in USA.  ;D

Their internal jet upholstery tool and 802 wand are my favorites.
