I didnt know it could get that hot..
« on: December 30, 2010, 01:03:07 AM »
I had an entire nasty apt building. 4 apts and all nasty gooey soap residues from SS or SM. according to the PM..
I did the first half of the building with my usual heat setting.. Then on the last half I was starving for food so I decided to CRANK UP the therm. to 3/4 towards highest.. It was snowing outside and I got mostly steam vapor.. It was KOOOL.. I wish I had wand extenders to bring the heat closer to the carpet. and more usuable. I honestly keep the temp ATM 195 or more. and at the wand its maybe 160ish? Not today.. It was pegged at 265 ATM. So I had to turn it down a bit just under total vaporization. It cleaned GOOD. and since I didnt have anymore prespray after 5 pm. I didnt need it after all. :13:

Its an HT2 with a 23 burner propane. Bought it from ebay. from a guy who sells brewing componants.

Most burner systems will put out all the heat you would want.

There is no doubt in my mind That I could have had it at 300 or more degrees of heat. I need a better heat guage.
I would never use that kind of heat in a resi job. It would melt the carpet for darn sure.  :great:

But I have to admit.. I LIKE IT!!! and my rinse agent cleans awesome by itself. I may not have to use prespray ever again. this is the nastiest apt. and it came out like it never happened. and the snow that night. lol darn I need to carry the real camera and remember to take after pics. GRRRR!!!

Cleaning over 220 is overkill and dangerous.

Cleaning over 220 does nothing bad to carpet and allows one to clean faster with less chemical.   HEAT is awesome!!!!!!!

who needed chems that day lol... I have found out that on some days the therm doesnt wanna put out the high end heat.. with out high heat I seriously doubt it would have budged, unless I put down super strength citra-pure. at $67 a gallon yikes propane is cheaper.

Heat is just another tool. It has its place.

Be careful of Olefins and running hot hose over vegetation.

I burned a yard once. Lucky for me it was rainy season.

The guy was major mad... I was major embarrassed.

One week later it was fine.

But the design was pretty cool. I had circled the hose out front and forgot.  :-\

Looked like little crop circles. The guys neighbor thought it was cool. (so did I)

But imagine had this been somewhere else and some other time of year.

I have only run my lines over peoples grass about 3 x's. Carpet cleaning in Arizona seems to be easier then cleaning in other areas of the US.

That's because most people down south have rocks in place of grass Joel ;D

Thanks. I like the rock look too. I do get tired of it at times though. It's all you see out here.

At least you don't need to spend money on lawn equipment and gas?

Was thinking about the original post in this thread and it reminded me of a few incidents I had over the years. One in particular.............I was about 500' from the van on the third floor of a commercial building cleaning by myself. I realized as I was moving along that it was getting hotter and hotter until live steam was coming out. Didn't take too long for all this to happen. Realized the diverter valve on the heat exchange system was stuck or something. Ran down numerous flights of stairs and sure enough temp gauge was pegged. It was hotter than hot. Ended up ruining the gauge, some wiring, a solenoid and a sensor. Plus I burned the crap out of some very lush grass and bushes next to the building. I've had about a half dozen or so similar situations. The scariest was probably the Powermatic. Flow valve got stuck on and the burner was just running and not shutting off. Got to the van before too much damage was done but it took a while for things to cool down.

Just be aware that any system that creates heat can go faulty. If it seems too hot then it probably is. Check it out before more damage is done.

Thats hilarious!! those aint weeds. We get weeds 4 feet high. those are the size of blades of grass around here. I have a pic somewhere of a dandelion that was, I kid you not 3 foot or better...not uncommon around here! hence why they grow lots of pot around these parts.. they can grow upto 16 feet in the wild.  :13:

Pure Olefin Gen One anyways will melt if a vacuum is in left in the same place while you go change outlets for the plug.  30 seconds will do.  I know, did it to my own carpet in the early 90s in a house built in 88.

I have a stubborn nylon carpet today... I sprayed the prespray and it sat on top of the fibers. It was severly matted down with oils and nothing came up with my vacuum. It was like the carpet was made of wax.

I cranked up the heat to max!!!!!!!   :13: put on the jet extenders to bring the vapor bar down nice and close.

I even scrubbed in the prespray with a carpet brush. then tried encap juice punched with citra-pure. DID NOT PHASE IT ONE BIT.
So I did it nice and slow. and on the bad spots I grabbed the "giant" pressure washer wand and blasted the dirt out. Then used small water claw to get the deep stuff out and injecting from the side with pressure wand..

When I was done it was night and day..... and it still dried within 3 hours that shocked me..

As far as temp goes, I have no idea how hot it was. turns out there was alot of thermostat turning radius left. More than I thought previously "top of thread".

now it was super heated. And the owner said I dont care. If you cant clean it I will replace the entire thing. I just figured I would give you a try first.....
he was stellar happy.. I was stellar worn out. lol

My IICRC class book states that Olefin is heat sensitive and damage can be caused at 250 degrees with a melting temperature near 325 degrees.
Yet dragging furniture arcoss it can cause friction burns on fibers.

The rest of the synthetic fibers have higher heat damage and  higher melting points.
