glides wanted ?
« on: July 12, 2011, 12:29:06 AM »
I was looking to put some glides on my westpak wand.   With no vac hooked to it , it will slide along great.  With the diablo hooked to it on a low cut pile I can only pull it and raise it off carpet and set back down for another swipe.  I have 3 wands and they all act the same when hooked to the  TM, the porty is no problem with either direction with the wand.
I figured I would try some glides on the westpak 12" wand .   And are all the glides the same for all makes of wands?

It appears there are two or three styles of glides available. ...........

Slotted, Hole, and combo.

How do the wands work without glide?

Wands slide back and forth real good till I hook the Diablo to them. they seem to stick to the carpet then.  Almost took a couple walls out with the wand. Tried pushing wand ahead and it would'nt budge, so I give it a good thrust forward and it comes loose and flies into wall. Its just not smooth on some carpets, more like a fight.
If I find some time I might just head up your way sometime and look you up.  Give you a "look" at what I've put together. Heck , if I'm up that way and you have a dirty carpet I'd let you test drive the TM and get your carpets done for "FREE".   Yes that said "free" but your gonna have to push the wand yourself!       ;D

They will cost about $150  But green glides are the shizzle.  I have them on my wand. Makes a world of difference. Life is easy with glides.

Joel, do you still get the same suction as with no glides?  And is there different types , say slotted or holed?

I feel that my amount of suction is the same. And if not then it is a wash because I do more drystrokes because it is easier. to do them.  Because I have a glide I probably have a different wanding pattern then most folks. I am always on the trigger and do 3 inch v's all the way across the room. then I go off the trigger and do 4 inch v's of dry stroke back. I am very fast on the wand and feel that I get a really good flush because I am going over the carpet 4 to 5 times per area. just with the wet strokes.  There are some carpets that have 4-6 hour dry times and there are other types of carpets that have 1-2 hour dry times.

I garuntee with your El Diablo that you will be fine with glides. And you will feel a whole lot better at the end of the day.  It almost seems toooo easy.  Sometimes you will think you must be cheating but you arnt.  It just that teflon slides across carpet much easier then Stainless steel and aluminum.

$150!!!!  :017: I know they make work easier, increase production, stop back pain, but seriously!
If only there was a company that made carpet cleaning equipment that didn't know how much money we are all used to spend, or how much money we make. What is it, $.70 worth of plastic, $.20 worth of "teflon" coat... design.. 32 hours maybe? Am I missing something?
Mike I know you dont like them, but have you ever thought about making some home remedy ? What would be the difference if you just got some Teflon spray and sprayed your wand?

You can get this milk jug material that wears like iron. I do not even think it would need teflon spray?  But by the time you buy the material and time to make it I think it would save if I just kept cleaning and bought and deduct the thing. Not unless you mass produced  them  for sales .  Is there a patent?

Its not teflon spray they are solid teflon. Probably about $20 worth of product then labor and then marketing and then .........
Seriously saying that $150 for a glide is too much  is like saying $150 to get your carpet cleaned is too much.

After checking these Green Glides out it makes alot more sence to me.. I was unaware they were so cool.
I was thinking about the "glides" on ebay that just look like two pieces of rubber that you have to glue on.
Spending 150 is now starting to make sence...
Sorry I didn't investigate before commenting. :-[

Is "Green Glides" still in business?

Remember reading about them on the boards a while back.

There is slotted holed and hybrid which is slots and holes.  I personally like the slotted glides.  But it is one of those personal preference things.  I have a friend who has taked his holed glide and widened some of the holes so it is a different version of a holed glide.

If I remember right they called me back and gave me distributors. Closest to me is Prochem of New England (Kennedy Carpet Cleaners),  Phil Mejia in sales can get glides, he can set U up.  Steamway of New England can do the same if memory serves me right.   Hate to say it but tmf store has a bunch of glides for different wands at cheaper prices of 150.  From 99 - 125, I'm not sure if they are teflon, (I did not look real close.)
