Glide or no glide?
« on: December 17, 2010, 11:04:21 AM »
Should you put a teflon glide on your wand?

I have mixed thoughts on that. They do slide easier across the carpet but I'm not sure I buy into any other benefit than that. They seem to clog easier and I never experienced any difference in drying. Now granted at that time the smallest machine I owned had a size 6 blower.

Thoughts?

I like the glide allot.  I didn't know how hard I was working till I tried a glide, big difference, makes the job much easier.  I used a hybrid and a slotted, and I like the slotted better it won't clog and will take up hair and debris better.  I don't have enough experience to know if it recovers water better.

I didn't. ..........Was cleaning  way before glides and our machines were set at 15 inches of lift. Might try one today. Getting older with more miles.  ;D

Don't think I would bother with a portable? I'm not a big person and had no trouble running one of those for hours without.

Naaa! There easy to run. Size 8 blower on my 2.5 gallon spotter works wonder.

Actually, I have no clue what I am talking about nor have I ever used a blower on anything but to blow out the leaves in my yard.

Mike, I loved the glide when I had my 421.

I had a teflon slotted glide that fit just right.

They wear out fast if your doing nasties though...

And like you, the only real advantage I saw was easier on my back. BUT that is huge IMO.

I did not use the glide on berber style carpet. Nor if there was spils I had to address.

The glide I had on my Steamin Demon was a waste of $200.  I've never pulled a wand so I wouldn't know about that... I hear Andy is the expert, he's got a truck mount now ya know.

good information, I didn't know about them, I hope they help, especially at big commercial jobs when hands just fall off.

As a HWE TM  expert and a self proclaimed industry leader, I will be glad to help all board members for the low price of $19.95,   act now and I'll lower it to $19.90,  This is a $12,000.00  Value.

Glide here all day! Have tried with a portable and a tm and will never go unglided! The ease of use far out weighs the drying benefit (which I am not sure about either).

Take the wand and toss it in the dumpster. Get an rx or RDM.  Who is really gonna care of you dont clean edges? or Corners?  :great:

they are easy to slide the wand with. they do suck up the topmost layer of water. but they do not get the water from the entire strand of carpet and backing surface. Unless you put a weight on the wand to force the wand to act like a water claw.

However I did take a busted up water claw spot sucker. added a "S" wand tube to it. with a 45 elbow, and removed the broken handles and placed a manifold onto it.  That thing was impossible to use.. But fun to make, and even better to wonder why in the heck I made it in the first place.. Now that thing needed a glider. Or training Wheels

To finish Kerry's answer. No glide for the edges. Glide for every where else. Or RX20.  Glide keeps Kerry from getting right up to the edges.
Personally I use a glide 98% of the time. Have used it bareback a couple of times and it is just too much damn work and no difference in cleaning and slower drying.
