Cleaning vac hose?
« on: December 07, 2010, 09:12:03 PM »
Due to the whether my hoses have been getting real dirty with mud and what not. I was wondering if there's any tricks on how to clean the grime off the vac hose's? I tried to wipe them down with a towel but they still look dirty.

Andy I remember seeing some hose cleaner you thread the hose through as you pull it out.  When you goto wind it back up you run water through it and it cleans ther crap off the hose.  I forget where I saw it though.

That looks cool. I need something like that during this time of year.  Do you know who sells it?

When I had my TM I'd take my hose and lay it all out out the driveway.  I'd then take my hydro force sprayer w/o the jug attached and crank up the machine and wash it down w/hot water.  Worked like a charm.

I usually pull out my vac hose and carry them in-in 50' sections, same with the solution lines (I prefer no sol. line reel). I do however get some dirty hoses once in a while though, for this I buy those cotton gloves from Lowes, Orchard, or HD and put them on while I reel the vac hose in. Works like a charm IMO.

FWIW- You can buy those gloves in 10-packs for like $7-$10 and just switch them put until you can wash them all.

Andy, I bought some hose bags and stuff the hoses inside. 2 bags is likely enough unless it is a monster crib.

Two go inside to unroll hoses and get rolled back while inside the house. BUT you gotta be careful cuz sometime, dirty water drips out one or the other side. so be sure to do the rolling up part on top of tile or put down a rag.

Wash the other hoses off with a garden hose while you are running your bleach through the system.

I also kept one 30' section of hose in another bag for the really nasty stuff I had to get through sometimes. It usually never came off of the truck.

This drops the need to store hose, wound-up, on the reel.

I had one of those hose washer things once. Not that impressed with it.

Like Jimbow I used a pressure wash gun to wash down the hose.

What we did in winter was keep a couple of lengths of hose coiled up to use just inside the building. Cut down on the stuff getting dragged in. You can use a bag like Phil or hose straps to keep things organized.

could you try having 2 bits of hose, one that goes from van to house, then one that only goes in the house so that you can keep one clean and let the other get dirty and not worry about it going onto customers carpets

That's the way to do it! I have some black hose that is used outside whereas the rest is blue - that way if I have an assistant there is no confusion. Blue hose is always carried in.

Absolutely true. I had one. Its easier to use a spray wand.

I have the hoser and it is difficult to use with a manual hose reel. Unless you have someone to hold the tool or reel up the wand. But it works very well to clean the hose.
