Vacaway stuff.
« on: May 08, 2008, 03:21:30 PM »
Okay kids. I took the advice given here and now have a case of Hot Knife. I have a few days before the next CC gig.

Is it really that much better than the other guys stuff?

I need to know before I go...these are real clients and I do not want anything worse. It took me forever to find the stuff i know will work. BUT....if YOU tell me to...I'll dump my current stuff (sprayers) wash em out and re-fill with HK.

I'm thinking folks on this board tend to carry a small chem factory in their vehicles and they seem to apply mystical alchemy when selecting, mixing and applying their magic formulas. Me? I'm just a junior magician. I'm moving toward HK for all CCing. I think it works a bit better than Blaze, but that is as subjective an opinion as you'll find.

Dump your sprayers Phil, and don't look back...

We use the Hot Knife on medium nasties at 4 oz. to the plug uglies at 8 oz.....

Mix a spray bottle at the "Super Spotter" strength...

I have even gotten used to the Cherry smell...well almost.

We still use Whamm/Z Bomb for the light to medium stuff.

Ricky's stuff is like water compared to HK, and John's stuff, while not as bad, is weak too in comparison.

THAT was the reply I seek. I wish to have one chem...and it must be a magical formula. so....upon the suggestion of MC...i will do the dump dealio.

I am another HK fan. I am currently running my last gallon of Blaze out. I also think that Blaze is a bit weaker. Phil, you can't go wrong with Hot Knife. It really does the job.

And it's great on cereal in the morning. Better than a stiff cup of java!

I am afraid to ask what it turns to crystals and then shatters.

Anyone know why Hot knife has a reactivity rating of zero and has butyl in it.
I checked my Blaze MSDS sheet that I got from CCS and it doesnt even list a reactivity rating
and it has butyl in it too.

BTW - I'll go out on a limb here and say these two chems are probably the same.

First, The HMIS reactivity rating is obsolete. It was replaced with "Physical Hazard" around 2002. All you needed to get a reactivity rating of 0 is to not violently decompose, and not react with water (releasing energy) even at eleveted (fire) temperatures. Butyls typically show up in the Health category. That's probably the reason Hot Knife has a health rating of 1.

Oh, and ask Steve Smith. He will emphatically tell you they are NOT the same! I have tried both, and I and others find Hot knife slightly better on the nasties. Not to say Blaze is bad, I have used it on normal soiling with good results.

Phil - The difference is there for sure. Enough that Hot knife has become my chem of choice. OK, poor choice of wording. ;D

I am going to clean my dogs ears out with HK. The good thing is it crystalizes any wax left over then shatters and flakes right out. This way I only have to clean thier ears out once every 5 years.
