new guy on the block
« on: April 03, 2011, 08:18:40 AM »
Hi my name is kevin--did carpet cleaning in the 90's while living in San diego, Ca now living in Denver, Co in the 90's i used a 175 with carpet brush and a mounted solution tank and a portable extractor-1st step was pre vac--then the 175 then extract with portable--started doing carpets again just under a year ago-currently have a mytee M5 portable with mytee's hot turbo external heater, the new roto vac 360i with standard head that came with it, then bought the carpet brush head, also have a 175 rotary with mounted solution tank and carpet brush--basicly using the same method with good results-just newer better equipment-but the chems have changed alot over the years and now we have the encap, bonnet and dry cleaning methods which i am very very interested in getting into, seems like the end result using either is good but with alot less work done in alot less time and since i want to get into commercial seems like the best option, however i've never done encap, bonnet or dry cleaning and need help as i don't have any experience at either. Can i use the equipment i already have and what else if anything would i need was thinking of one of those counter rotating brush machine's--then of course what would be the "best" chems to use i want to do the best job i can and the chems i know can make a big difference

Welcome Kevin.

Many still think the way you used to do it is the best...only no one wants to pay for that much labor today it seems.

Your current gear is more than enough! Go to The vacaway website and investigate the new chemicals.

I use a 175 (I do have a mytee porty if needed) and Peroxcellent.

Welcome Kevin!

You can certainly start with what you have. There are encap HWE cleaners and your rotary can be used for prescrub, bonnet, encap cleaning.

Denver is quite a thriving area. You should do well there?

Thanks gentlemen for all your feed back--i've not had the best of luck/results with HWE on cgd on commercial jobs, seems those carpets don't like too much water, always look good when done but not after they dry--it is for this reason i was looking into low moisture cleaning using a crb machine with combination encap chems and that dry compound stuff--a local supplier let me use a crb machine there in the store and i really liked it, they (crb machine) was very easy to use and manuveer around--so if i were to go this route with low moisture cleaning using a crb machine what would be the best proceedure and chems to use

Thanks again

Welcome Kevin,
I use a crb on my commercial job and based on results/ time spent you'll find your hourly rate go up. I use a Whittaker, very durable and minimal down time. Very low cost to maintain. I like their chems and have also used peroxcellent and some others. If you do buy the chems from Whittaker, I would suggest the 5-gallon cube of CDX (cleans 250,000 sq/ft) for about $185.00 + shipping. If you buy by the case it's about $125.00/ case. So in this example you save at least $50.00p/case. The brushes will last for millions of square feet of use. I would suggest both the green and blue brushes.

Most crb's that we see out there are made by the same OEM in Austria and pricing is usually pretty consistent, but are distributed in the states under a variety of different brand names. I will say that customer service and specifically the service department are great. I've had more than a few minor situations where instead of packing it in for the day & back to the shop, they were able to get me going in short time.
